Davey was exciting and like a sports car. Febey was reliable, like a Camry type footballer.  Davey gets my vote.

Davey had game-winning form, and was capable of some of the greatest playing streaks in many, many games. His skills were sublime, whatever the aspect of football that was required (except the big grab, of course). From this skills base, and with his pace and determination, he created the attacking forward defence role as a marque of his own. His passing by foot was elite - underpinned by his 'eyes-up' tendencies and readiness. He contributed enormously to the team keeping the ball in the forward line by this means, opening up options amongst teammates for another possession to score. His defensive work was widely copied at both ends of the ground. An uncanny attribute of Davey was his reading of the game, with great talents to anticipate what an opponent would be doing next with the ball; Davey performed some brilliant intercepts as a consequence.

Steve Febes was pure talent, as well. After a variable start in the early days, he was just behind the skills of his brother but progressively and over a couple of seasons, worked on his game to become a key interceptor and driver of the ball, gathering commendable possessions no matter who his opponent(s) was/were. Steve used the ball very well; his foot skills and handball were often sublime, and his pace and maneuvreability were just about as good as these qualities can get. Steve was a play-maker, his disposals were often accurately lengthy and unexpected.

To measure the positive changes in team attributes of both of these players is very difficult; IMO, based on raw skills and impact on games, Davey gets my vote.

2 completely different players & this is where the voting is difficult as they are not like for like......Love them both but purely because Febey has played 80 more games & is the 5th highest games played at the dees, he gets my vote.

SF, in my opinion, was more durable than Davey & could play in a number of different rolls eg: fullback, HB, on ball & could go forward & kick a goal.

Agreed. I actually put febey well in front but I have a liking for solid defenders and febey was one of those.

Stephen Febey,  all day long.

A man who could be a player in a winning Premiership team.   Had all the necessary attributes.

This "tournament" isn't a like for like tournament. In a few rounds it could be Davey vs Gawn.

Febey for me and by quite a long way.

Talented, tough and completely reliable over the course of his career.

Davey IMHO was at his best in his first three-four years and even then was too easily tagged out of matches.  I think when you weigh up his talent and physical attributes, he under achieved for what he was capable of.

Easily Febey over Davey,   Febey Was great his whole career till injury meant he ended his run close to breaking the then games record.

Davey was amazing early.  but then faded over his career.  He set the standard with his defensive pressure for the comp and then stopped doing that sort of pressure.  Not sure if that was coach led.  By the end it was obvious Davey was done in terms of being competitive, not so with Febey.

Febey was a consistent, talented and skillful player who went under the radar for most of his long career. He played his role to perfection and made a huge contribution. Reminds me of Foulds of bombs who played 300 games just doing his job.

Davey changed the nature of forward defensive play and showed some of the most exquisite skills ever seen. Just last week he shimmied and shook and kicked a long goal in the replay of the 2006 final against sinners. He also got us into the finals against doggies when he stalked a doggie and smothered a kick. From the throw in White got a free kick and goaled. That sets him above nearly all players in the red and blue.

Davey for me.

For the record this contest is grossly unfair to players like these two. Implement repechage system.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
