No I don't believe so old dee

More so someone who speaks their mind against the majority view.  A bit negative?  We can all be like that

We need differing views to promote debate

Couldn't agree more.

3165's views do come across pretty hateful.  I hope 3165 gets some joy in other areas of their life because it doesn't appear that our beloved dees give he/she much!

I see a lot worse from those who should know better

Abuse of their own players, abuse of umpires (by the way, doing that is not ok), those who can only see misery and the same types who are only happy when they've got something to moan about.  Plenty fall in those sorts of category's

But it takes all types and again, differing views makes things interesting

In other words I might not like what you've got to say but I will defend your right to say it (as long as the line isn't crossed)

We've had genuine trolls here who aren't Demons (esp those like Dr Who with his many guises!)

Now those types should be banished but Ash35 who is a Bomber is harmless

The endless negative diatribe from 3165 borders on unhelpful rather than useful to debate though

I honestly thought they were a troll for a while, but I'm thinking just a pessimistic supporter sadly

Oh no, 3165 is a bomber?????  Sorry, so sorry 3165.  Sincere condolences.  Carry on saying anything you like about anyone.  Whatever gets you through this difficult time.

Well there was a veteran poster here who for years was perceived as being constantly negative but as it turned out, he was spot on nearly every time.  No prizes for guessing who I'm talking about haha

There's often a fine line between being negative and being a realist

The optimists often see the realists as pessimists and the pessimists equally can see realists as optimists

It doesn't pay to be a realist on a fan site!!  It's a minority group

What about the bloke who wouldn't shut up about all of us joining in to sing "You'll Never Walk Alone" outside the MCG before every game

That was nuts

Ha yes, I do remember that.  That was when I read this site daily but was too scared to actually post anything!  Now look at me go.

It's funny isn't it.  When you first post you can't imagine even posting 50 or a 100 times

And I used to look at those with 10,000 posts or more and think, that will never be me.  Who's got the time?

And here I am at 13,000+!  What the hell happened?

Edit: 14,000+

I would love to have voted, Harmes as a pure tagger, follow them wherever they go, play fwd, back, mid and bench, whoever he has to slow down.

He plays his best footy as a run-with tagger.  Not a hard tag, that's not his go

The more astute among us know a [censored]-stirrer when we see one. The whole ‘we need differing views to promote debate’ thing is an easy out for these sadsacks who bag our own players under the guise of offering different views to promote debate.

Yes a tag, hard or run with, depending on who we need to slow. So for me neither, mid nor back. I couldn't answer the poll question.

I love his game when he gets the ball before the one he is tagging.

How about in the days before smartphones and devices? I was lucky to post 3 times a week sometimes! And you could forget about posting in a gameday thread at the game unless the G had an internet Cafe that I wasn't aware of!

Yes he argued fiercely for his club here on the thread about the Bombers peptide scandal

Whilst I didn't agree with him he put up quite a convincing argument in terms of how guilt could be arrived at and where the actual proof was

Of course, WADA only ever needed to arrive at a  'Comfortable satisfaction' conclusion which many weren't familiar with ... for instance, our tribunal doesn't work* that way in its adjudications

*Does anyone know how the tribunal actually works?!!

Yes when he is playing that role he reverts to the dashing midfielder when winning the ball

If he can rediscover his best form he can be a real weapon.  Time will tell

Personal issues aside, he is in the same basket as T-Mac imo.

The difference between their best and worst is just too great at this point in their careers, (especially T Mac).

Harmes doesn't need to do anything other than the basics at a high standard and he doesn't do that often enough which is why he is a 'maligned' player.

I'd like him to play another week in the VFL and reward someone like Laurie who has played two great games in a row. Harmesy should be made to earn that spot back.

Can't say I have a great deal in trust with Harmes when the opportunity presents itself.

He's form has been pretty poor since he was dropped and relegated to sub duties last year. Can be sloppy with his ball use and his continued don't argues which results him getting pinged doesn't seem to have clicked inside him that they don't work.

Did what he did at VFL level as expected but like @JimmyGadson mentioned, one game shouldnt justify an immediate AFL selection. Laurie deserves his opportunity far greater then Harmes.

When up and running Harmes is an impact player for us. We needed him at his best last week. We need him at his best going forward. Suspect it’s why he’s been relegated. He either displays his class in the VFL and comes back in and has an impact, or he stays in the VFL. I’m glad he shown his class. Our midfield needs him badly. Harmes up and running is our 3rd best mid.

Can't say I agree with this at all.

Our 3rd best mid is currently playing off a half back. He's no where near ahead of Viney as well.

Harmes best position is as a tagger. Unfortunately for Harmes, Goodwin barely runs with a tagger now days and prefers to back the midfield system already in place.

It's why Harmes over the past few years has been phased out to a half back and forward.

I braved the rain and wound up next to the coaching marquee on Sunday.  I felt like Bailey took a while to work out how to play around Harmesie(who is a clear step up from VFL) on the day, but he is obviously regarded as a young leader around the VFL team with lots of clear vocal input to his team mates.  I thought he had an exceptional game imposing himself on the game as it progressed.  A pity he could not convert his snaps on goal because that would have made it a BOG performance. I know he was devastated by his first seniors game and is keen to get another run (he is family friends of a friend).

Think there was some confusion between posters. I will say that I never doubted you're a passionate supporter, that much is clear

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
