Do we put any substance into the reason why we have brought Brian Cook in to help mentor Guerra..?

I think itโ€™s a really good thing given the experience and success Cook has had. Guerra obviously has extensive business experience and great connections in Victoria, but fast tracking his knowledge on football matters makes sense.

Didn't we want to get someone to sit between him and the footy department and haven't been able to entice anyone to take that role? Few concerns.

I think the words about our Vice President learning to deal with Politics says a lot about the slowness of the process.

We have been very patient and a bit more patience is needed and to me even the fact we are discounting Waverley for a short term fix, points to not wasting money and effort, when we are close to getting Caulfield for the long term.

As someone who works in government, and in an area that liases with multiple Ministerโ€™s offices, I can confirm that the timing of any public announcement of a government funded project is dictated entirely by the relevant Minister and the government at large

I think Green has likely gotten ahead of himself and was not familiar with how these processes work, hence the indication that an announcement was close when in actuality an announcement is entirely out of our hands

Having said that, the lack of announcement at the AGM doesnโ€™t mean the work isnโ€™t being done and that weโ€™re not actually close to securing funding or approval for the project - we may just be waiting for government to commit and announcement a communication timeline/strategy

and it doesn't help when members sue the club costing the club money, hey george!!!!

It also doesnโ€™t help when you are paying out contracts to ex Coaches, injured players, players who have gone to other clubs, ex Officials and a host of other issues that cost money not to mention decreased revenue due to things like smaller membership, missing finals, less sponsorship etc, etc, etc.

Clubs run as businesses and businesses have different financial results, due to a number of factors, some preventable, some not, each year.

I agree that it's great to have Cook involved but it's a great pity we weren't able to attract a CEO that didn't need Cook to teach him the ropes.

As for Guerra's extensive business experience, could you outline this for me please? Outside of the position at VCCI, what are his business credentials?

He is apparently a great networker, but is that enough?

Well that could help with getting more sponsorship which will help the bottom line and provide some more money for Caulfield.

Btw I have a horse running there on Saturday, so will try and get a bit of info from MRC Committee persons.

You donโ€™t think dealing with a range of different businesses in Victoria wouldnโ€™t give him experience? I also think networking is probably the most important part of the CEOs role also, which is why Gil was so much better than Dillon.

I also believe Guerra was the managing director of Optum International/United Health group, vice president at Motorola and a director at Vodafone.

The MFC website has a whole section including maps of the proposed facilites, Frequently asked Q&A, What the facilites will contain, letters to members etc. But all of it hasn't been updated since September 2024. They don't have to give us everything, but since that time there have been various possible adjustments given out including Waverley, the car park area and special events area at Caulfield. Surely they could have put an update every 4 months or so.

From Herald Sun today.

President Steven Smith said a new facility remained โ€œa top priority for usโ€ and the club was โ€œreally closeโ€ to being able to make an announcement on that front.

Melbourne has been eyeing a $100 million high-performance and administration facility, which would be built on land within the Caulfield Racecourse Reserve and feature two training ovals.

A feasibility study on the site began in December 2023, with a business case now expected to be handed down early in the new year.

I put some sadness in it.

What a place to be in; high paid CEO who requires development and training in THE INDUSTRY HE WAS HIRED FOR.

Itโ€™s laughable really.

They should all just shut up until they have something to announce.

They are just the most naive when it comes to messaging and their own image with their stakeholders.

Nearly every time each one of them talk - I cringe. For I know โ€˜that was not what they meant to sayโ€™ or โ€˜they canโ€™t say more than thatโ€™ or they are โ€˜not across it entirely yet.โ€™

SAD!

yes and no - i mean, obviously ever senior exec / ceo i've had the (mis)fortune to deal with has had some sort of mentor / consultant that they have used as a leadership guide etc. etc.

but it's still hard to disagree with what you have written

Yep, sort of like Goodyโ€™s role Coaching Dean Cox and far lesser tennis players coaching the best players in the world like Nadal, Federer and Djokovic.

No, actually it would be more like getting someone from outside the industry to be mentored by someone from inside the industry.

Say if you got Djokovic to play world football and got Loinel Messi to teach him how to kick a footballโ€ฆ

Probably should have got someone who can kick.

May as well just get Messi in there

โ€˜Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than open your mouth and remove all doubt.โ€™

They donโ€™t have to talk about the fact that they may be able to soon talk about things that might be happening possibly in a future timeline in this universe or a parallel universe at some point in the future.

Just ACTUALLY shut up.

And I donโ€™t want to hear from any trainees on things they apparently donโ€™t know much about.
