Emerson Jeka.  He’d be a punt.
Hugo Munn 18 yr old from the Norwood SANFL reserves. He’d be a bigger punt.
Never say never.

A steal at 97? An absolute punt !!

I think Charlie Sprague (Falcons under 18s might be available)   Saw his 2018 highlights and thought unlucky not to be drafted.  Agile, great mark. Goalkicker   Played for Barwon Heads senior team and as a overager in Falcons team.  From the Falcons footy factory, he has the makings of a AFL player.

Lachlan Potter (nth knights under 18s) - pacy running mid. Absolutely a classic wingman. Vic metro rep. Got injured 2/3rds through the year. You can never bypass kids with footy smarts and lightning pace. Likely to be drafted imo at 50-60+ but could slip.   Would be one not to ignore

Perhaps a mature age type

Sam Lowson (Coburg)- 22 -small forward.
Will Fordham (Frankston) -23 - tall running ruck Rover Hayden Schloithe (Sth Fremantle) -26 - solid running mid Jordan Lockyer (Subiaco)26 - 193cm full back - ex Sydney Swans listed / best defender in WAFL

I’d definitely grab Schloithe.  Ready to go. Past 4 years has been one of the best mids in WAFL. Will be a guaranteed player to cover any midfield role.  Would succeed and cannot underestimate him given success of Pickett, Menegola and Kelly.

What about Lefau from Casey??? Dazzle??

I believe that Mykelti Lefau could be picked as a Category B rookie as he is originally from New Zealand. However, he’s been around for a couple of years and the club hasn’t opted to do so and therefore, it’s not a likely option.

In any case, he wouldn’t therefore be in contention to be drafted like the others.

I do find it interesting that with the bidding system a relatively useless low draft pick can actually become semi-valuable. It is conceivable next year with the high proportion of F/S and academy picks that a pick in the 50’s or early 60’s becomes a pick in the 30’s.

If only we had one more pick.  Mitch O’Neill or Fraser Phillips.  Both look likely AFL Players with excellent skills and that class to play at the top level.  Both will definitely get rookie listed.

(b) In addition to maintaining the maximum number of allowable Category A Rookie
Players on their Rookie List under Rule 10.1, each Club may include a maximum
of three (3) extra Players on its Category B Rookie List provided those Players
are:
(i) former International Scholarship List Players at that Club who have been
nominated under Rule 13.5 or 13.8;
(ii) former Club Academy players at that Club who have been nominated
under Rule 14.4;
(iii) International Players with the exception of Players who, subject to Rule
10.1(c), are Irish citizens or who have, in the opinion of the AFL, lived for
a substantial period of time in Ireland prior to inclusion on the Rookie List;
(iv) Players who have not been registered or played in an Australian football
competition for 3 years immediately before inclusion on the Rookie List;

(v) a Qualified NGA Player of the Club who has been nominated in
accordance with Rule 15.8(c).

Are we going to pick any players in the rookie draft?

I suppose they can nominate for the mid season draft, should anything happen to anyone on our list, we can pick one of them up?

Both got picked up as rookies.  Desperately unlucky not to be drafted.

Any chance you could post your earlier quotes re O’Neill.

I really like your posts mate, but you do have a tendency to overrate players, particularly when compared to where they end up being drafted.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

    Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

    Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
