Sparrow, Jordan and Nietschke

Yesterday wasn’t the best day to judge the emerging draftees when we got an all round smacking and the senior players we fielded didn’t shine. I don’t expect a break in player to be best on ground under those circumstances.

Didn’t see this level of negativity when we beat Richmond last week. I’d find a worst three on ground thread after a good win a much more balanced set of view points.

3-4 years in the system before you see real results.

I'm still bullish on Jordan and Sparrow, looking forward to watching them develop in 2021

Sparrow’s a very strong kid with some explosive attributes. He ripped the ball free to set up one goal, and shrugged off a tackler at another stage. He’s also taken a number of very decent marks in his career. He was a half back at state level, that’s the next step to try him if he doesn’t start winning more ball. But he did his job when he played last year so I wouldn’t give up on him just yet.

Been saying this for a long time now 'Dee', but he isn't a mid. He's not a natural ball winner...needs to be tried in defence if he's going to make it.

Sparrow doesn't cut it -  hard and tought but for a bloke with average speed and average skills (at best) he needs to be a massive natural ball accumulator -  ball magnet like the crouch brothers -  but he's just not -   just doesn't read play well enough to compensate for average elements in game.

I'm far from convinced in either Sparrow or Jordon but I'm not going to write them off based on yesterday. The entire side was flogged by the competition's best midfield.

discounting the academy picks, i highlighted who i woulda taken instead, notice a distinct lack of inside bullocking types. obvioulsy mosquito showed a fair bit as has jarrod cameron and the two rucks briggs and williams look decent too but don't fit a need for us

You mean who you would take if you knew what you knew now and could go back in time and do the draft again.

Which is not how it works.

2 27 Melbourne Demons Tom Sparrow
2 28 West Coast Eagles Xavier O’Neill
2 29 Collingwood Magpies Will Kelly
2 30 Adelaide Crows Will Hamill
2 31 West Coast Eagles Luke Foley
2 32 Fremantle Dockers Luke Valente
2 33 Melbourne Demons James Jordon
2 34 GWS Giants Kieren Briggs
2 35 West Coast Eagles Bailey Williams
2 36 Brisbane Lions Tom Berry
2 37 Western Bulldogs Laitham Vandermeer
2 38 Essendon Bombers Irving Mosquito
2 39 West Coast Eagles Jarrod Cameron
2 40 Brisbane Lions Tom Joyce
2 41 St Kilda Saints Jack Bytel
2 42 Brisbane Lions Connor McFadyen
2 43 Richmond Tigers Jack Ross
3 44 Sydney Swans Justin McInerney
3 45 Western Bulldogs Ben Cavarra
3 46 North Melbourne Kangaroos Curtis Taylor
3 47 St Kilda Saints Matthew Parker

3 50 Geelong Cats Jacob Kennerley

Will Hamill is a beauty and just what we need and Tom Berry would have been a much better selection.

Latham vandermeer looks great too, fantastic pace with clean skills, would've looked good running the opposite wing to langdon

ok well yes and i get inside types take longer to develop and we've rotated a lot of smaller types off our list in the last two years and at the time i didnt see an issue with either selection, but it's always good to put the hindsight glasses on sometimes
