Highly regarded in the industry but I'm a little doubtful on Freo really doing their due diligence if they've hired a former player and only interviewed 2 other candidates, both of whom had Freo connections and seemed long shots.

We should probably look at Dean Solomon, sometimes the best coaches can get hidden away at bad locations and if he's been grinding away at the Suns for years and still got recognition then he might know a few things. A bit like Richmond wisely giving Leppa another go.

Just because your not at a top club doesn't make you a poor assistant.  Lots of very good talent spread over the lower clubs. Some with top club assistant they often get more credit based on the overall team effect.

dean solomon has been rumoured to be heading to essendon if he wasn't successful landing the freo senior gig

i still think it'd be a weird fit given that rutten is appointed as woosha's successor, and caracella is seen as one of the best assistants in the business

Yep that's why I'd have a word. Going to Essendon with Worsfold is far different to going with Rutten. Meanwhile he'd be in a nice position at Melbourne if we did the one in one out that St Kilda, North and Carlton have done, plus we're at such a position on the ladder now that he'll get credit for making us better even if we barely improved!

How does that work, given that he took the role at North?

Sounds like whispers is barking up the wrong tree...

Longmuir, Solomon, and Carr were the names all talked about as in the running for a senior role at Freo, and all are known to have presented to the board

Been no talk of Rawlings to Freo before now

Assistant coaches can walk from contracts if it's for a promotion.

Rawlings has been spoken about for a few years as one of the assistants likely to score a head coach job at some stage, so I'm not really sure why it would be a surprise. Just because it's the first time you've heard, doesn't mean it's wrong.

Flights are cheap Perth to Melbourne these days. Rawlings could easily been interviewed on the quiet. Rhyce Shaw wouldn’t have stopped it

In today’s West newspaper there’s a Welcome Home Longmuir poster/banner or something like that. No wonder Fremantle’s idiot supporters become so disappointed and upset at their coaches, they treat them like the second coming when they’re first appointed.

Being the West Australian, no doubt Nic Nat had some involvement

Liam Pickering the manager of Rawlings confirmed on SEN this morning that Rawlings just missed out on the Freo job, also praised Freo for the way they ran the process and lack of leaks.

Despite his track record and expectation on being a good senior coach the Sumich interview didn't go well.  It was reported he shared his view on how the club needs to "change/evolve" and they didn't like his views.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
