Apparently what impressed Roosy about Goody when looking for his successor was he spoke more about club culture than game plans

Good on him, but nothing has really showed for it apart from our first 2 finals last year and the won against the eagles in Perth. Culture isnt built overnight, but there is barely a noticeable difference over the last few years.

This.

We had major issues with the health of the list alin 2019 and i was never going to be our year.

The mental capitulation, and our failure to eke out a couple of hard fought wins late in the season is another thing.

If you want a prototype on how to build up the mental strength of a list look at this years premiers.

I'm a great believer that great culture is built with a strict adherence to doing it the hardest way possible.

Train hard,  play hard and never forget to enjoy the moment.  So party hard too but butter-up immediately.

The bloke in charge (Goodwin) has got to get real tough with his best players.  And we need to recruit some more 'best' players.

We as supporters concentrate way too much on non-difference-makers.  Not that we have any influence at all.  We're just chatting in the pub internet style.

It’s a boring culture - Max and Clarry about the only two characters in the place. Where are our indigenous wizards?

Nothing comes easy in life, as our young inexperienced coach and players found out in 2019.

Success is earned, not awarded and relies on increasing effort and desire, increasing skills, developing game plans for the cattle available and no small measure of good old fashioned luck. These in point,  the Bulldogs who claimed glory in 2016 and have been able to repeat it.

MFC has been given every leg up to be successful.  Ok, we lack a "home base" but that does not win flags. We have facilities at AAMI that put that discussion to bed as am excuse.

No, we where led by leaders in Roos and PJ who framed the outline of success on and off the field. Since the departure of Roos we have lost structure on the field. Goodwin's chaos ball,  is nothing more than a shunt and grunt game plan, that will inevitably lead to players being injured, as we have seen for 2 years straight.

We have got talent, but not oodles of it, so a succesful, evolving gameplan needs to be built around what we have. That is observably lacking.

Precision disposal does not appear as high on Goody's wishlist as guts. Until it does, we will fall short of success just as any team in any sport will, where ultimately, execution of the game's fundamentals sort the best from the rest.

I believe we will do better in 2019, against poorer opposition. But we are unlikely to be great.

After nearly 60 years of supporting this club,  with the exception of just a few bright spots, such is the way it has been,  and possibly such is the way it will be in the years ahead.

I agree that the only way we are going to get through this is through more blood, sweat and tears.

Lots of money will help too.

Plus getting good quality football people involved at the club. People like Mark "Choco" Williams and others that strive for excellence.

This is going to be an extremely difficult challenge but we can do it if we have the right people at the Melbourne Football Club.

I still believe that we can win Premierships but it is going to to be a long and hard journey with lots of pain still to come but nothing is ever easy in life.

“Don't forget the good gear today buddy."

“Don't forget the good gear mate."

“Bring some of the good stuff in buddy."

“Sorry mate forgot to see you yesterday. Am heading to Adelaide today can you please bring some of the good stuff in buddy."

These are some of the texts Simon Goodwin sent to Steve Dank when he assistant coach at the Bombers. I could be wrong, but I think the “good stuff” he is referring to in these texts, is “club culture”.

Was I the only one that noticed the AFL webpage this morning had the Saints down for two premierships?

I see it's corrected now, but seriously if you don't have a basic grasp of AFL history and your job is to display that in a graph... yikes.

I actually chuckled at that.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
