I thought following the Essendon and Hird experience everyone these days agreed that a senior coach should have some form of coaching experience. In my view, the best person to right the wrongs of 2019 is Simon Goodwin. He knows more about the playing list, the gameplan and the capabilities of the whole football department than anyone else. If he can't do it, then I'd turn to someone else. But he should have first crack. If we subsequently decide that someone else should take over, that person should have coaching experience (not neceesarily as the senior coach) as well as formal accredited coaching training.

I would be happy to have Jordon Lewis as an assistant coach if he's prepared to do the formal training and if our football department is happy with his communication skills with respect to dealing with players.

Almost...but he can't know what's inside Goodwin's mind right now with respect to any changes to the gameplan intended for 2020. Of course, Goodwin's future plans might not work and Rawlings may have ideas that are better, but right now Goodwin deserves the opportunity to right the ship. That doesn't give him a free pass for 2021, but he should be supported by the club, the players and supporters in 2020 as he works to get us up the ladder and into contention once again.

What game plan? A little bit of this...a little bit of that...a tweak here a twerk there.

That aside i dare say Jade will know MORE about the players and FD.

I cant see Rawlings hanging around.

Just a whisper, Jordan might be looking to go into the media.

Good luck to him, has been a player that knows what level you need to train at to be successful.  So should enhance the “media”,

Is there a role for him as a part time coach with our backs or mids and also doing “media”?   And I think the red and blue colours look better on him than the poos and Wees !!

He won't be staying with us. As I always say, take this as you wish as I'm a random guy on the internet, but he does not want to stay around the club as there is currently a bit of a division in the playing group that he's been involved in (he hasn't caused it or made it worse or anything, please note that).

Jordan has accepted a role at Fox Footy for next year.

So this so called division spoken from some random guy from an internet is now the results of having 2 co-captain??

C'mon mate, I'm not a fan of the co-captains system, but surely you are not making assumption based on the fact we have "2 captains".

If this what you actually base this from, then whats your opinion on it when Sydney won premiership flag back in 2012 and 2005 when they had co captains system in place..

I don't think it stems from that to be honest, but I don't really know much more than what I posted.

I have never liked 2 Captains at all. It splits the room, particularly when the side is performing badly. We have to stand up rather than be on Training wheels.

Leadership qualities are easy to spot if you know how to look. Psychology Lectures and Studying Body Language taught me that.

Jones and Viney are not it. When did either lead with pure guts this year. The real stories about this year will come out soon, there is no way it was harmonious.

2 Captains just multiplies a bad vibe if problems arrive.

We need one Captain, that the entire list will stand by. Who has Respect...

It may not be the entire reason, but it sure wouldn’t help

I really like Jordan Lewis.

Even though I expect his heart will always be with Hawthorn, I hope he continues to have some involvement and affection for the red and the blue.

He’s contributed a lot to this club - I was absolute stoked when the trade was announced, and he’s been one of my favourite players on the list ever since.

I’m a bit disappointed he’s not going around for one more year.

Cause or Consequence  ?

There is some dissent. I've  heard this too. And who'd  da thunk...its a divide between  some younger...and some older.  Maybe  coincidence  we have a younger and an older captain.

Working well isn't  it.

No doubt there is a Divide down the middle of the room

It better not be there after this weekend

A lot has been suggested along the lines that Goody has lost the players. Others retort that's nonsense etc

Something that has been commented to me by non Dees is 'you just don't look like a team on the same page"

And we don't. We don;t perform well as a GROUP.  Simon may still have the players as such but his lost the GROUP. A fissure in and among the team would certainly account for this. it would go some way also to explaining the frustrations exhibited by some players towards others.

I don't know if the divide is straight down the middle but I've heard there are distinct camps. I had also been made aware there was not equal favour emanating from coaches to players. Imho all of this just adds up to where we find ourselves.

The human condition is a funny thing. You just can't fake synchronicity. It's either there or it aint

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
