That's a fair point. 

I guess my concern about Lever is that when he joined us he wasn't coming of a knee reconstruction - he was coming off a good season and people were talking him up as a a future AA lock - and his form before his injury was underwhelming - and that's being kind. He was poor one on one and an average kick who turned it over a lot. We actually did a lot better defensively when he wasn't in the team

His best attribute was his finger pointing and it is good to see he is still elite in that category. 

Sure he had to learn a new system but compare that block of games with May's handful of games for us. May has impacted straight away and i feel really confident we made the right call in trading him in. May is also an elite finger pointer, but at least he can back it up. 

With Lever right up to his injury i was hoping we had made the right call but not confident. I still feel the same way.

    May will be fine, with Lever I thought he struggled early but had come good a few games before his injury.

    Lever has had a very ordinary return to senior footy after an ACL layover. He wouldn't be Robinson Cruso there in terms of players coming back from an ACL.

    However, he was playing very good footy prior to doing his ACL last year, particularly between rounds 6-10, and I can specifically remember DL going into meltdown when news of his ACL was confirmed.

    Our defence went from averaging 62 points during Lever's spike in form, to a 20/20 cricket score of 134 against the Pies, the week after he went down.

    He was also nominated in the All Australian squad of 40 in 2017. That's a very good sign right there.

    I'm not fussed how he finishes the year, however we are entitled to expect a very very good 2020 from Lever considering the investment we put into him.

    As i mentioned in the thread above, between rounds 6-11 of 2018, we were averaging a measly 62 points against per game and had a W/L record of 6-0 and Lever was playing good footy.

    Then in the next 3 weeks (after his ACL) we conceded 134 points against Collingwood and 117 points against St Kilda. The other game against Port was a defensive slog in which our forward line let us down.

    I would argue we had a cracking defence during that period just before he went down with his ACL.

    Having an underwhelming return to AFL I agree, but he still took 9 marks and some of them contested against the Saints.

    A very hit and miss facebook page has gone with the rumour that Gawn will miss 2 weeks with an ankle injury.

      Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
