lucky to still be in it but Geelong will have a 2-3 goal breeze coming home. Hutchins and Monroe playing good games. Smith and Spargo our next best. Spargo’s Silly mistakes downplays his game. Hardly saw JKH that quarter and it’s been a really poor game from Maynard today (I’m disappointed).  JJ had a better quarter that one.

For anyone upset that JKH is not playing tomorrow you just need to see him at Casey. I’m really disappointed in his game. He’s pulled out of a number of contests and gives up on the chase too quickly. Combine his skills with Monroe’s endeavour and we would have a good player.

He is a serial offender re not committing physically and it’s the obvious reason for his non-selection and why he will be delisted at years end.

It all started well as I strolled in the sunshine though the turnstiles to be greeted by John Denver's Take me Home Country Road over the public address.

Went to take up my position on the Berwick Hill and almost blown away.

The wind blew constantly towards to the Frankston end.

As a game this one has to rank with the worst Australian rules exhibition I have watched. Picture 36 men in about one eighth of the ground having a maul. It rarely got much better.

Geelong won it with their third quarter when their taller players allowed them to exit the Casey backline. Very hard to do against the wind.

Casey players gave their all but hard to judge anyone's game. Smith and Keilty both took strong marks and goaled but forward 50 marks were a rarity.

Would add one other point.. the Casey ground needs serious work on its drainage. Took a good walk around the arena at quarter time. In many parts you just sank into the turf. Not really AFL standard.

Great to see Casey make it a close game.

I had questioned the oval condition a few weeks ago. Might need some $$ spent over the summer.

was talking to one of the locals who mentioned that the rumour was that the contractor failed to properly drain the centre.

May need some big money spent on it as you say.

On the adjoining oval the Cranbourne team were playing. They probably had  a bigger crowd.

Agree. I walked across the ground and it was terrible. Felt liked it had rained non stop for the last couple of days.

JKH named in best players. Don't know how they can they can nominate him when he shirks body contact & doesn't go when it's his turn. Trade 2 Blues.

How do you define probable?

If you define it as NONE of the players you have listed as probables to be delisted will be delisted  you are on spot on.

It was really disappointing for me to read this thread this morning.

Not so much because of Casey’s loss which was half expected due to the sheer lack of AFL experience. I think Scott Selwood has more AFL games under his belt than the 10 Melbourne listed players who took part.

My disappointment was due to the fact that a number of posts had to be deleted by our moderators as a result of the unnecessary derailing of the thread for the purpose of chest beating and preaching when it wasn’t warranted or relevant. People come here to read the thread mainly to find out how some of our younger prospects and our out of form or players returning from injury are faring. We want to know if our VFL partner can make the finals.

Demonland is not about individual posters. It’s about our club and it’s players. 

A great deal of what I read was crap and was rightfully removed. We won’t tolerate it here so before anyone thinks of posting “I’m better than you” posts, think again because they won’t be visible for very long.

Windy day footy has always been the domain of those who play the game hard: on days when the breeze gusts all over the place and the ground has been sodden by recent rains, the player needs to get all aspects of his game together and be hard of body and mind, to concentrate and attack the football.

The Casey Demons came out on their own deck in such conditions and under a mainly sunny sky and gave it a crack for half a game but they lost sight of the fundamentals of playing hard in difficult conditions in the third quarter while their opponents kept their composure and held sway in the end. Indeed, the home side was lucky still to be in the game as time on began in the final quarter when Jaxon Briggs goalled to level the scores.

In the end, Cats veteran Scott Selwood decided the issue with a goal and the visitors won by 9 points. It was Casey’s second defeat in a close game against a top eight team and virtually put put an end to the Demons’ finals hopes for 2019.

Earlier, Casey had come out of the blocks with the strong wind at their backs and scored three goals while holding the Cats scoreless. They backed that up by holding them to a single goal at the main break but when their second term with the wind came, they were outscored by the more experienced opposition. Tim Smith’s goal late in the third quarter was his team’s first for almost half a game.

And that was the problem. The undermanned and inexperienced Demons had nobody to kick goals. Nobody to come out packs with a big mark, nobody to crumb a goal from ground level and they were smashed in the hard contests. From a Melbourne perspective there is very little to work on for the future (Oskar Baker and James Jordon excepted). Let’s face it, given the club’s injury woes, if you’re not in the heart of the continent with the AFL team and you’ve been around a few years, your prospects aren’t very good.

The fact of the matter is that Melbourne’s AFL contingent were shown up by their VFL counterparts in young Tom Freeman who finished with a career best 30 possessions which included a few timely marks out of defence, hard nosed Jimmy Munro who once again displayed the fundamentals of playing in trying conditions and led the way with his 16 tackles and Jack Hutchins who was strong in defence and beat his well credentialed AFL opponent goalless.

We saw fair efforts from Kennedy Harris and Baker but most of the rest were disappointing so it was really good that the team was able to stay so close and be in the game right to the end. Had they made the most of their opportunities in the opening term, they might even have won the game.

Casey travel to the Trevor Barker Beach Oval for a meeting with old rival Sandringham. Hopefully, a better performance awaits.

It is a real concern that we are seeing so little from the ones we need to see the most from.  I know Bedford and Chandler were later picks, but each week they manage about 20 dream team points each.  It was reported that JKH shirks contests.  Kielty is down on confidence and Tim Smith did his thing without dominating.

We have Sparrow and Jordon, one injured and one putting together a few good games.

What to do with Maynard?

Oskar Baker is definitely a keeper, and you would think Spargo, who had good tackle numbers, is also still on the edge of the AFL.

Bradtke and Oscar Mac didn’t even play.

Perhaps a hot knife will be going through much of this list at the end of the year.  We certainly need healthy players pushing for selection, and at the moment - in fact throughout the whole season - this really has not been the case.
