Agree with everything until the last sentence. How can a self starter be given a start?

Umm very true, and a tautology. Cant get away with anything on this site.

Should have read self starters who have been given the confidence they needed.

perhaps 'opportunity' would be more opportune?

Personally think yourself and @La Dee-vina Comedia should get something more in your lives???

Your right.

Of course that can be said for all of us and that includes all Demon tragics including your goodself.

But life is a tragic comedy given the triviality of our human existence with its inevitable end. We are simply filling in time until the end.

Perhaps we should take  up metaphysical spirituality Satyricon ?

No, you have your role in life with your training reports that inform and entertain us all.

The development of Harms and ANB are two of the best success stories out of 2018. Seen as fringe players by many, they have developed into automatic selections and are playing important roles in a team.

They have gained confidence from the coach who has nurtured their development and given them the opportunity to develop without the fear of failing. .  Individuals develop over different lengths of time, but you need to be able to identify the potential and and allow the growth of self-confidence.

These two guys are clearly self-motivated and switched on.  Self starters who have been given the start they needed.

A rare opportunity to add to Ernest's always great writings but perhaps opportunity would be a more appropriate word in this case.

It is an amazing progression that our club has made over so very few years: from abysmal player development to best practice.

Well done to all involved.

Attended the main Dees Open Training Session At Maroochydore Sports Complex this morning from 9am to end at approx 11.40am then plenty of time for the oldies youngies teens and toddlers oh and babes  in arms to get the whole lists' autographs.

Players Divided into rehab on second oval and fit and firing on the main ground. Rehab had about 8/10 inc. disappointingly Gus Vines Clarry May Spargo and understandably Jake L Maynard Jonesy and Oscar No 2 Baker and Guy Walker all did recovery running kick to kick and slow drills with no body contact like match simulation. About 20% of the very large and colourful crowd watched this.No stand outs but May did very little Gus Jack and Clarry  a lot  Jake is holding himself back from kicking other than very lightly on right foot.

The main group did plenty of tackling, one on one drills plus match simulation and were divided into 2 teams taking the ball from one end of the ground to the other where by a player from the attacking team ran into an open goal. Forwards did some high msrking drills using the leather support to gain height. Mixed results but plenty of set goal kicking in the match play with about 80% accuracy. Tommy Mac Weid and Keilty kicked well.

Generall I add these comments about the session.

Very professional and organised session. No sign of Melsham or KK on ground that I could see.

Maxy and Brayden P are like 2 giraffes long legs and tall bodies a good 6 inches above others. Active and alert both. New recruits not heavily noticed but Toby Bedford eye catching in speed and once timing etc kicks in will be good. Keilty is clunking some marks and hs development as a forward May surprise us all along with Pruess and Weids development. Jeffy in thick of it and Oscar No 1 in the bucket hat did sort of stand out.

Good one on one duels near end featuring Maxy and Weid, Tom Sparrow and maybe Josh Wagner. ANB still running into easy goals plus Vanders is the fittest thank goodness of his career.

Couple of predictions to finish up!

Fritta will end up in our best 5 players at end of this year no matter where he plays.Big seasons for Spargo Oscar No 2 and Vanders. That's a good start for improvement without and new draft recruits in the mix.

Thoroughy enjoying session with love in the air as everyone dares to dream of what may lie ahead this 55th year of waiting  for our well overdue 13th flag.

The Baby Boomers are like excited kids myself among them awaiting September and it's outcome.

I am sure it is a sign, though of what I am uncertain - even clueless. Perhaps some of the deep thinkers here like Hemingway will find the truth.

I think the first chapter of Malcolm Gladwell’s “Outliers” may hold the key to this one.

Neither boy are gifted natural footballers... they both had to work hard to get where they are now.

And their determination to succeed & hard won fitness has delivered them to this point.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
