• while Gary Rohan revealed his desire to return to Victoria a few weeks ago, we now know his preferred destination is Geelong.

• GWS ruckman Rory Lobb who would like to return to Western Australia if a trade can be arranged.   

• according to his manager, Melbourne’s Dom Tyson, would also be open to a trade.

• premiership Tiger Jacob Townsend is weighing up options, with St Kilda seeking to arrange a meeting with him, and Gold Coast also interested in the forward. 

• the ball is now in Lachie Neale’s court as to whether he wants to join Brisbane according to General Manager of Football at the Lions David Noble.

• Noble expects his side to have another aggressive trade period, with Geelong’s Lincoln McCarthy already declaring his desire to join the club.

The Dockers will be up for a few first round picks at this rate.  They may need to trade out this years, next years and the one they get for Neale to get both Hogan and Lobb in the door.  I guess they've drafted some handy young players recently, especially last year with Brayshaw and Cerra, so they may feel like getting two young and talented talls in will be worth giving away those picks.

Rohan to the Cattery is a classic Geelong move as well.  Get in another player who won't really impact the side enough to make them better, but they'll talk them up all the same.

Geelong are right on the edge of becoming a levitating potato. No chance of going any higher, not going to go down any further, and not actually doing anything interesting where they are.

Couldn't agree more.  I know they'll get Rohan relatively cheap, but he'll spend just as much time injured as will on the park and he is highly inconsistent.  He isn't really what they need at all, but let them do it as it keeps them as a middling side which is something we can all enjoy.

• Melbourne General Manager of Football Josh Mahoney’s has revealed the Dees won’t be able to afford Gold Coast captain Steven May unless Jesse Hogan leaves the club. The Demons will have an answer from the key forward by Monday as to whether he wishes to be traded to Fremantle.

• Mahoney went on to say Melbourne would expect significant compensation for Hogan, up there with the highest any player has ever been traded for. Dean Kent and Aaron VandenBerg will seemingly also get to their clubs of choice in St Kilda and Sydney.

• Tom Lynch officially selected the Tigers as his club of choice meaning Gold Coast will likely get their hands on pick three in the National Draft as a compensatory selection.

• Richmond’s Sam Lloyd wishes to become a Bulldog, while George Horlin-Smith should get to the Suns.

• Former top 10 pick Jack Scrimshaw has requesting a trade from Gold Coast and defender Kade Kolodjashnij may find his way to the Demons.

• Luke Dunstan and Will Brodie are happy where they are and should remain at St Kilda and Gold Coast respectively.

A lot of repetition on the broadcasts over the past couple of days (perhaps they could have waited until Friday?)

• Darcy Moore’s manager James Pitcher all-but confirmed the swingman will be staying at Collingwood beyond 2018.

• it appears that Collingwood have upped their offer to talented defender Tom Langdon, who remains out of contract.

• Aaron Hall wants to get to North Melbourne and get a fresh start on his AFL career.

• Richmond youngster Tyson Stengle has attracted the interest of the Crows.

• the race for Dylan Shiel rolls on with Hawthorn appearing to be the club leading the pack, but don’t rule out Carlton or St Kilda from jumping in front just yet. Essendon appears to be furthest back of the four sides.

• Tom Liberatore is one of those free agents but is set to remain at Whitten Oval;

• Gold Coast skipper Steven May is yet to request a trade but the Suns want an answer from him by early next week. They will however, be trading defender Kade Kolodjashnij “early on next week” with Melbourne the frontrunners for his services. The Suns say forward Jack Martin would not be traded;

• Tom Langdon’s manager Scott Lucas says his client has only recently received his first offer from Collingwood. The preference is to remain with the Pies;

• St Kilda has confirmed its interest in Dean Kent, but ruled out targeting free agent Daniel Menzel.

• Reece Conca signed with Fremantle for three-years as an unrestricted free agent in the first deal of the period.

• Geelong officially lodged the paperwork for Western Bulldogs midfielder Luke Dahlhaus, signing him to a four-year deal.

• Gold Coast forward Tom Lynch is off to Richmond unless the Suns match the bid made for him by the Tigers.

• Geelong's Tim Kelly has requested a trade to West Coast, wanting to return to Perth and be closer to his family.

• Fremantle does not believe Brisbane’s pick four is adequate compensation for Lachie Neale who is contracted to the Dockers.

• The trade period itself opens on Monday.

I don’t get it - if Lachie Weller is worth a pick #2 and Lachie Neale is worth better than #4, then how can Jesse Hogan, a 23 year old strong marking KPP capable of 50 goals a season, not be in the elite class worth two first round picks?

How do the so called judges place a 27 year old defender in the same category as Hogan?

• Port Adelaide has officially lodged paperwork to secure West Coast premiership ruckman Scott Lycett on a five-year, $3million deal;

• Reports have been confirmed that Anthony Miles and Corey Ellis are set to leave Richmond, the Tigers are not expecting much back in a trade.

• Several quick transactions got the 2018 AFL trade period underway today with three moves on day one.

• Brisbane acquired Lincoln McCarthy from Geelong for pick 42 and an exchange of fourth round selections.

• The Cats then on-traded pick 42 to Carlton for the rights to state-league player Nathan Kreuger from the SANFL.

• Meanwhile, Richmond traded midfield pair Anthony Miles and Corey Ellis to the Gold Coast, along with a future third round pick. They’ll receive the Suns’ 2019 third rounder in return.

• The Tigers also unveiled Tom Lynch in a Richmond guernsey with the restricted free agent officially joining the club today.

• GWS pair Rory Lobb and Will Setterfield requested trades to Fremantle and Carlton respectively.  Lobb has previously stated his desire to return home to Western Australia, while the Blues and Bombers jostled to win Setterfield’s nomination.

•   Dylan Shiel finally nominated his destination of choice - Essendon after being courted by Hawthorn, Carlton and St Kilda.

•   Terry Wallace believes the Bombers’ first round selection (pick nine) and their 2019 first round pick would be what he’d consider a fair trade.

•   GWS General Manager of Football Wayne Campbell confirmed North Melbourne’s interest in defender Jeremy Finlayson, but added other clubs are still in the mix.

•   Scott Lycett officially joined Port Adelaide today, with West Coast electing not to match their offer.

• Six players found new homes today as the action started to heat up.

• The biggest move of the day saw Adelaide’s Mitch McGovern land at Carlton, with help from Sydney. The Crows got their hands on pick 13 from the Swans as part of the deal, who in turn received picks to help them land father-son prospect Nick Blakey.

• McGovern officially joins Blues in the three-team trade, and Saints agree to send Hickey to West Coast with the Eagles giving us their second-round pick.

• Sydney also acquired North Melbourne midfielder Ryan Clarke as part of another three-way deal. The second aspect of the trade allowed Gary Rohan to get to Geelong.

• The Roos lost Clarke, but gained Jared Polec and Jasper Pittard, exchanging pick 11 to the Power for the duo.
