You can't celebrate the good without reliving the bad. There'll be alot of revisiting the past on this road to glory. The media love that stuff.

True, like most trauma I realised I had blocked some of it from my memory, I remembered of course but had blocked how it felt-I really was worried the club was going to die, or that it would change so much there would be no continuity to some of the traditions I loved about the place.

I don't often agree with him, but BT made a really good point about the improved maturity of the side this year.  We aren't going over the top in our celebrations after each goal or looking to treat the opposition with disrespect.  We are just going about our business like a side who knows it can blow teams off the park and we're doing it with a ruthless efficiency that is great to watch.

What was not great to watch was the first minute of that video.  That really hurt.

Now we are at Tuesday, we can probably regain a bit of perspective.

I tend to agree with the Duck a bit. I think that the margin did make the win more impressive but I think we really do need a game against a top 4 club at full strength before we can cast judgement.

If we travel to Perth and knock off a full strength Eagles or the Swans in Sydney then it's time to look out.

I agree that we need to take a big scalp or two at full strength to gain the full respect of the wider footballing community. Heck we need to do that in finals. Hell we need to make finals.

Having said that we should be getting at least a little bit more respect for some of the wins we have had this year than we are currently getting. Other teams aren't trouncing Gold Coast and Carlton like we have. We comprehensibly beat a team that was 4th on the ladder, albeit with some injuries, that made a grand final last year and had 14 or 15 (I think) players playing from that Grand Final. This was no GWS circa 2013.

We had Hogan, Gawn and leaders out for chunks of the year last year and still managed victories and if we didn't win we certainly didn't get flogged.

Yes we need to show more and we have that opportunity in the next 2 weeks and in the back half of the season.

Agree with all that.

Goodwin also exhibiting that same moderation and humility in his dealing with the media. 

I feel at ease with the club.  This is a strange and unusual new feeling.

True, but we can only play who we are scheduled to play.  It would be great if we could ask for the opportunity to play either of these teams to prove our worth, but obviously we can't.  So we just need to keep winning, keep building the confidence and earning respect.  Do that and anything is possible.

Carey is absolutely right. But for the first quarter and the first few minute of the last quarter Adelaide were lamentable.

We also need to remember that no team can hold its best form for an entire season (although Essendon in 2000 had the almost perfect season), so we will drop off at stages. To consolidate we really need to knock over the Bulldogs this week.

Of course. I think what Goody is saying about playing the opposition in front of you is key: Respect the game and the opposition in front of you. At the end of the day, it always will be 22 on 22. 

I am kind of happy with most of the responses thus far coming from the club. Goody has been Roos like in how level headed he has been. Most of the outside commentary has come mostly from ex players and coaches. I think Maxy could probably have given less away when interviewed but it wasn't a Jack Riewoldt riding the train style PR disaster.

These games are best looked at as a good lead up to potentially greater things should we take full advantage of them.

I think even singing the song after the game, around the centre circle (which was painted like an Aboriginal flag).  It was a very mature rendition of the song - no silly faces, etc.  It was also a very respectful version given the ground upon the were singing it.

I get the feeling that Goody has belted in to them that we are still yet to achieve anything, and until such time, we need to keep our feet firmly planted on the ground.

What is fantastic is to hear so many positive comments about the club - baby steps but important steps.

Plus the publicity for our sponsors is almost unprecedented.

And the north win is looking more impressive very week. Easy to forget that we won that game by 6 goals.

I think the potential has been there for a while, it is the maturity and the 'team first' actions I am seeing at every contest that I am really appreciating.  We are riding the high at the moment - the wrist slashers are not far away - one loss will do it and they will be back.  However, I think that if we keep up this attitude and approach we can ride out bad periods in games when we are beaten, and even bad games if we have them.  This for me is about building the long term framework that success will be built on, and the belief to grab back success if it starts to be taken away by opposition clubs.  The way they are sharing, not over celebrating, not getting distracted and just getting on with stuff is superb!  We keep this up, and momentum will swing in behind us.  Momentum is a powerful force in football.  The maggots ride it, the crowd rides it and it can give us advantage before we even run out (as long as we don't drink our own Kool aid).  I think this is where Goody and the coaching team will now earn their stripes - keeping the lid on inside the club whilst everyone outside leaps on the bandwagon.

Indeed. Zurich have come on board at an auspicious time.

It's been the selflessness and team first attitudes that have really stood out the last 3 weeks.  Very effective and makes for great footy too.
