GAMEDAY - Round 23

The players should be in the mindset that every goal and every point counts. Don't worry about the win. Just do what it takes to narrow this margin as much as possible. If we win, we win. If we lose, we lose; just go for it though.

T McDonald is a better forward than defender. He gets confused in defence.

A bit of a change? So far this quarter it's 46-22 disposals and 7-4 tackles, both in our favour (first quarter was 94-97 and 8-14).

Brayshaw finally hit a target.

Wasting opportunities and of course they kick one.

Gawn has been crap. Seriously he needs to pull his finger out.

FMD did this kid step on 13 black cats' tails or something?

Horrible kicking for goal then they nail one from the boundary. Of course.

Can this guy catch a break?

Gonna need Jeff and Jack Watts to have days out if we're to win this now that Hogan's out (probably for the day).

Gawn is bloody useless atm. He only gets himself up for teams who have a good ruckman i.e. port and gws.

You will never ever come back from that sort of first quarter. Ever.

We have only ourselves to blame. You don't start games like that and expect to win.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
