The one thing that comes to mind around the tanking issue is the 'falsification' for want of a better word that it has at the top end of the ladder which is something that could impact our ladder position at the end of round 23 (for the first time in a long time).

If we are fighting for a spot in the 8 in round 23 teams jostling for lower draft picks that would most likely win but don't  could put us in 9th at the end of the season...

We just keep winning and we go up, not down

That goes without saying but not really my point.

Ok. Let's say it's the reason we end up 5th instead of what rightfully should have been a prized top 4 spot.

Another example. 2016 - tanking at the bowels of the ladder prevents the Bulldogs from making the 8....... 2017 - Bulldogs last premiership.......1954.

Yes fair point, but each club has it's agenda. All clubs pull up stumps before the end of the season if they are out of contention. Players have surgeries etc.

Did we factor in the opposition feelings 10 years ago?

we can make Top 4 if we win games like today and win them well

The bolded above is part of my point. Also read my edited addition above.

But how do you stop it?

bottom clubs are out of contention

they are looking at 2018. That will always exist, unless the AFL offer bottom clubs $$$ Millions as an incentive to stay of the bottom

I was never trying to come up with a way to stop it. I was just mentioning the unfair nuance it has at the other end of the spectrum. No more, no less.

Fair enough. I call it a factor

you can't get rid of bottom teams

it's why losses against Freo at the 'G earlier this year makes us angry!!! :)

He didn't really do anything. He made a passing comment jokingly which was unprofessional and inappropriate, and granted, it's awkward that he comments on it now. But his comments today are completely reasonable and not at all supportive of tanking. If anything he offers a reasonable alternative to counter it.

He did a lot at the time in question, along with CS.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
