Nervous nellies are pointing to appointments.  What a simplistic get out.

Where have all the hesitant, weak, inward-looking nervous nellies, that connected his early form with the "burden of captaincy"?  Remember that Goodwin was going to be held responsible?  He had a lot to lose by putting his fingerprints on a decision that wan't universally applauded; and one that could have gone belly-up.

Seriously, we have a once in a generation, Selwood-like dynamo that bleeds red and blue, that drives standards, that isn't weighed down by an irrelevant history,  that eats footy; and yes has ambition to be captain.

Yet some supporters here are weighed down by the emotional baggage that was the Trengove/Grimes appointment.  They also often fall to the default position of over-correlating one variable with another.  They remember Grimes/Trengove, but conveniently forget Kernahan and Carey.

Thank goodness the team has more courage on-field, than some have with their thinking on here.

yeah, just hate that over-correlating variable syndrome (ocvs). drives me crazy.

In respect to those who questioned the Viney co-captaincy, hardly anyone brought it up during his poor run of early-season form when the cheap conclusions were there for the taking. .

There were actually a few the bemoaned that we might've ruined another young star by burdening him, at the same time pointing to Jones being a real captain. Like many things with this club it was a process and it took a few rounds for Jack to realise that being a captain isn't about doing everything yourself but continuing to play on his instincts and use his natural abilities. It was that that made him co-captain.

I have this feeling that his game on the weekend will be looked at as a defining performance for his career. It was the moment he well and truly stepped out of any shadows that were being cast on him whether it was from his dad or Jones. He stepped up, big time.

One of the all time great Captain's games.

If that was a final he would be immortalised.

His game on the weekend was incredible, but I don't correlate that to him being captain, just like I didn't see the connection between his early season form and the co-captaincy.

I stand by my view that it was unnecessary to appoint him co-captain at this stage of his career.  As vice captain he still would have led the team on the weekend in Jones' absence and would have played just as well.

A player like Viney doesn't play the way he does because of a title, he plays that way because it's the only way he knows how.

Yep, he's going to be our "Woosha". Who was also made captain at 23 years of age..some kids are just born leaders.

Jack makes everyone around him walk taller (even though he's about the shortest guy on the list).

I hope he holds aloft as many premiership cups as Woosha.

That it was unnecessary is a reasonable view open to some reasonable counter-arguments. But you're right, he still would have lead from the front on the weekend with or without the label, and others still would have most likely followed. In that, your view kind of works both ways; it may have been unnecessary, but it was much of a muchness. I share that opinion, but think it was inevitable, so why not just do it now and march on ahead?
