Maybe you should use AFL resources rather than wiki for your facts....

httyp://www.afl.com.au/afl-hq/the-afl-explained/rule-changes-18582013

...and don't get personal, I wasn't mouthing off just setting the record straight.

Yes sorry it was changed in 2004 in November so after the season so you are right what year it got used,  but also I am right but should have t looked what date it was changed being in November 2004 wiki just said 2004

U are wrong the extra circle was put in 2004 not 2005 loiok up ruck rules on wiki

G'day Angry, sorry but you might want to check a little further and maybe edit the wiki you are referring to, as it is wrong.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_White_(Australian_footballer) and http://www.theage.com.au/news/Sport/New-ruck-rules-for-AFLs/2004/12/15/1102787141669.html

are pretty specific - the circle was introduced in 2005 after a post season test in 2004.

If you look at Jeff White's stats he dropped off after 2004, (a shin injury didn't help either).

I stand by my original comment, I'm still dirty about the circles, they stuffed Jeff's run up to the bounce.

Edit: My apology,I didn't see the 2nd page of comments, and your retraction, my post was redundant, anyway the forum on JW from 2007 - click on the link, a few commented on the circle.

Anyone know the stats on to what extent the injuries have dropped that the circle was implemented to prevent ?

I can't find any statistics, and they may be hard to find because of the small number of ruckmen in the game and the time of survey...but here is some anecdotal reporting on the matter:

http://lakehealthgroup.com.au/pcl-injury-a-ruckmans-curse/

to quote..

."In the AFL there is now a 10 metre outer centre circle which limits the run up distance available to the ruckman. This rule change in 2004 was bought in as a result of many AFL ruckman sustaining PCL injuries by extremely high impact forces as ruckman clashed knees from a long run up. Since this rule chance the incidence of PCL injuries in ruck contests has significantly dropped."

Also, many ruckmen now are using a tibia brace to lessen the impact, or rather spread it across a larger area, reducing the pressure on the knee and the PCL. I think Jeff White was probably the first to utilise this?

I've gone from loving this no 3rd man up rule to hating it.

We really are cursed.

Then next year when our rucks are all fit, the rule will be removed

Malthouse picked Max to win the Brownlow. He's easily our most important player, especially with so many inside mids. He can get it to the outside when it's their to give, or rely on our contested players if he has to nullify.

Losing him was akin to Geelong losing Dangerfield or the Eagles losing Kennedy - in that half the team is built around it.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
