Wait a sec Ill have a look......

Top 9 are as follows: 16th March

Alizee
Mystic Journey
Happy Clapper
Amphitrite
Johannes Vermeer
Land Of Plenty
Fifty Stars
Grunt
Hartnell

Any number of amazing races next weekend:

Newmarket with Osborne Bulls 3.30

Australia Cup and Canterbury Stakes....

You already know what my best bet will be i think...

Next year we'll have a stronger field but in any Group 1 WFA middle distance race the field often tails off after the top 6 or 8 ... to get 14 bona-fide chances in the race would be a promoters dream.

They'll make it happen next year by lifting the Benchmark qualification as well as altering the voting procedures to suit ... we might see 5 or 6 wild-cards too.  1 or 2 NQR's is acceptable though given it is a public vote.

I reckon the 3 add-ons will be Mystic Journey,  Fifty Stars & Hartnell ... add those 3 to Alizee,  Amphitrite,  Grunt,  Happy Clapper & Material Man and you've got a very good field.  Moss 'n' Dale & Mr Money Bags could run bold races too.

And 1 or 2 of the rank outsiders could end up with a dream run from a good barrier and end up finishing in the top 8 past the post.  Good money to be made for the connections of the long-shots.

Sort of begs the question why dont we see Alizee up against Winx

You could look at from the connections of Happy Clapper's point of view ... they have given up the chance to win other races with bigger prizemoney along with black-type recognition.

That they happened to gain a wild-card was testimony to the horses ability but it's still a bit of a risk running against Winx ... and the fact is that any number of the connections of the good middle distance horses have deliberately avoided Winx  - Apollo Stakes (1400m)  Chipping Norton (1600m)  Ryder Stakes (1500m)

Ironically,  the All Star Mile doesn't include the best Miler in Australia - Winx.  My query is why isn't 'The Autumn Sun' running in the All Star Mile or running against Winx?  For stud purposes the ASM doesn't carry any weight yet but when it does become a Group 1 race (along with the Everest) they'll be clamoring to get into the race.

My attitude has always been there's no time like the present so the dilly-dallying annoys me ... both races aren't going anywhere so get them both recognised asap.

Yep Nailed it. I dont think it detracts from Winx...they are deliberately avoiding her as Waller said post race presser

Their loss

The Autumn Sun is running in the Randwick Guineas next week $1.50

Early odds for the Newmarket with question marks over a couple at the top (notably Nature Strip & Zousain)

Santa Ana Lane & Redkirk are excellent value (both are former multiple winners down the straight at Flemington at Group 1 level)

There's a lot going on next weekend apart from Super Saturday at Flemington & Guineas day at Randwick.

We've got the Group 3 Newcastle Newmarket on Friday and then on Sunday it's Black Opal Stakes Day at Canberra with 4 feature events to be held.

And then Bruce McAvaney graces us with his presence on Monday for the Adelaide Cup Meeting ... hopefully working with James Jordan again with JJ giving out his tips.  They worked really well together last year.

The horse that won the cups treble out of Tassie in Eastender is running in the Adelaide Cup ... drawn 18 but it often gets back as a general rule.  Still,  with 20 horses in the field that's a lot of horses to get past.  Good field,  all the same.  Run over the classic 2 miles.

Tye Angland injury: Jockey declared quadriplegic following Sha Tin fall

Written By Tom Naghten

Aussie jockey Tye Angland has been declared quadriplegic following a fall in Hong Kong late last year.

Angland came off after his mount Go Beauty Go stumbled out of the barriers at Sha Tin on Sunday, November 25.

The 29-year-old hoop had surgery at a local hospital where he remained for two weeks before being flown to Sydney.

The Australian Jockeys Association released a statement providing an update on Angland's condition on Tuesday.

"As you are aware, Tye suffered a spinal cord injury when he was dislodged from a horse whilst riding in Hong Kong on Sunday 25 November 2018," the statement read.

"We now have confirmation that as a result of the fall, Tye is now a quadriplegic.

"Tye has some movement in his arms but is unable to walk.

"Tye remains at the Royal Rehabilitation Centre in Sydney as he continues his recovery and rehabilitation.

"Together, the family are currently working with a range of stakeholders in terms of co-ordinating and financing Tye's ongoing care and the family's long-term needs.

"His wife Erin, and the couple's three children, Alexis, Addison and Rylan continue to be amazed by the support they have received and wish to say thank you to everyone who has reached out to them."

There has again been an outpouring of support for the Sydney-based Angland, with the racing community rallying around him and his family.

Angland has ridden 11 group 1 winners in his career, including the 2015 Australian Oaks aboard Gust of Wind, making him the last jockey to pass the post before Winx.

Shocking news. Thoughts are with the family.

Finally,  the draconian quarantine laws have been lifted for horses racing in HK.  That means that horses here can be flown into HK,  compete and then return to Australia after a mandatory 2 week period.

I'm fairly sure that HK based horses like Beauty Generation,  Pakistan Star or Mr Stunning can compete here with the same 2 weeks only quarantine period being applied.  Conversely,  our top group of sprinter/milers could travel to HK for their big race days (esp in April & December) and then return to Oz soon after.

The field for the Newmarket Hcp is elite ... any number of horses have the class to win and the exotic dividends are sure to be healthy with such quality running around.

By contrast the Australian Cup is not so strong as compared to previous years ... we're on Ace High for the place here at ADATR and the horse is sure to run a bold race.  Be interesting to see how Rekindling fares after such a long lay off and of course the favourite Avilius will be hard to beat.

Up in Sydney there are 2 Group 1's - the Canterbury Stakes has got 4 strong winning chances engaged whilst the Randwick Guineas may well see a match-race between The Autumn Sun & Nakeeta Jane.

And James Jordan's (Safari JJ) best bet at Morphettville is Race 6 No.1 Extreme Thrill $5.00

Best Bet

Randwick Race 8 Number 3

All Too Soon $4.60 Win

Banking On T. Clark to have a good day tomorrow. He’s also riding Santos on his return in Race 2. Keen to see how it goes. A couple of recent trials recently, winning one and a 5th behind Happy Clapper. Regardless, I’ll probably have a few bucks on him at the $8.

Good betting race is the Fireball Stakes DZ (Race 2 Randwick)  Santos' 3 trials have been against some very good company and it should end up racing on the speed tomorrow ... I've included it in an exacta (on top with a couple of others)

Some terrific racing coming up at both Randwick & Flemington though - looking forward to the day.

Mate says the horse is ready to go after those 3 trials but admits he’s up against some above average competition first up. A typical good e/w chance Macca.

Good luck to all tomorrow in what’s shaping up as a hectic day’s viewing.

I'm going with avilius as my best again. Is miles ahead of those he regularly races against. Trap for fools will put some pace into the race, ensuring there is plenty of space and avilius will roll over the top of him and win by a couple (Not necessarily from trap for fools). Even at 1.70 is good value.

In terms of of how i select my best bet, ive said before but just for transpareny i choose horses that i think are close to rhe best chance of winning on the day. So often it is pretty short. But still  needs to be some value. So no winx for example. It is always the horse i have my biggest bet on for the day.

For me best value is a different concept. That is purely the horse i consider most overs. Can still be short(ish) but generally longer. Today my best value bet is i am a star (race 9 no 1 flemington)

We've already got Ace High for a place in the Australian Cup ... we probably need to keep each race as a separate pick otherwise the whole idea gets confusing.

I understand that one is for a win (Avilius) and the other the place (Ace High) but I steered clear of Avilius because Wadda had already used that race.  Scroll back 1 post before your post and it's all there to see BM.

They just ran a track record for 1100m up at Randwick and very nearly ran a track record for 1200m in the first.

So,  I reckon we might see another track record or 2 there given the quality of horse running up there today.

They said Gai was ropable the way they treated Santos at the barrier......pulling his ears and punching him.

I must say ive never seen a horse treated like that on raceday, if ever. Hope she gives it to em.

'Yes Yes Yes' wins impressively and is now a real Slipper chance ... 4 starts for wins at Flemington,  Moonee Valley and now Randwick.  Looks a big chance for the 2yo classic along with 2 or 3 others.

I did the double with the first 2 picks Wadda just so that I'm not tempted to cash-out on the extremely well paying treble!

Paying close enough to 20-1 for 'Ace High' into 'All Too Soon' so it's worth the price of a coffee or 3 ?

Anyway,  the big one on in 5 minutes ... best field for the Newmarket that I can remember.  Possibly the best field assembled for any race in the last 12 - 24 months.

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”?
