We don't need a backup ruckman, we have one, Mahoney said fwd/ruck if we can find one, Hannatth was delisted for a reason, MFC could have easily delisted Spencer but they didn't, that should tell you something

I believe strongly we need one more while King develops, if Max and Jake get injuries the quality of our ruck stocks is a real concern, one more on the cheap to replace young king who i suspect will be delisted i think would be a wise move, doesn't have to be Hanneth or Minson, could be someone else, but i really think the club should consider bringing in one more ruckman through the trade/draft period.

if we can get a forward ruck as well that'd be great but i suspect Pedo has been re-signed because they didn't feel there were any really good options open to them in this regard.

As there does not seem to be much choice, I would not be averse to Minson.

We do not want another "development" tall.

Minson is an intelligent and experienced ruckman that knows his craft and his limitations. Not ideal but not a stupid choice. He has a bit of aggro and can take a mark around the ground.

^ THIS., we are looking for a stop gap. Developing rucks takes ages. Max has taken 7 years.

Surprised by the negativity by know it alls like Wiseblood and others who contribute nothing but smart ar$se comments. He's hardly be the worst addition if you'd get him for nothing. If Max gets injured and spencer has to ruck, we are f.....n stuffed.

Better still - perhaps we should get Colin Sylvia back to assist Gawn with the ruck duties.

He'd need one good pre-season I reckon.

It tells me that we didn't see any options - and that we expected Frank to continue improving.

On the evidence of the VFL Grand Final - Minson is twice the ruckman Frank is - and he can mark.I think I think I'm right in saying that he played a fair chunk of his 190 games under Mc Cartney. If he wants to play - he'll be cheap.

He'd give Max a good workout at training !!

Spencer is under contract. If he wasn't I would consider minson. I don't see the value minson would bring with Spencer in the wings and pedo playing the role if 2nd ruck.

You can still trade out a player under contract, can't you?

I think it's fairly clear that Spencer will only get his opportunities as an understudy to the AA ruckman. At this stage of his career, he might aspire to be more than that so if another club offered him the opportunity, he might agree to be traded out.

On the other hand, Minson is as close to the end as you can get and he might be happy to play second fiddle (given that he's the only AFL player who can also play the violin, it would be a great fit) for a year or so.

If this happens, then Melbourne wins in the trade because it would get a draft pick or player in exchange for Spencer and Minson would come for free as a FA.

Whatever the case, we would be looking to draft another younger ruckman to develop along with Mitch King for the future (I can't see us hanging on to Max King after three years as a rookie).

Never said you couldn't trade out players. My opinion is purely based on signing Minson, not shifting other players on to justify him signing on.

I would support Minson if we signed him coz that means FD value him higher than I do, would still be tempted to eat scarf though

No Saty, i've already written to the MFC on twitter asking them to confirm they've enquired about Minson so that we can see you eat your scarf, no backing out now.

Like this WJ

On the evidence of the VFL Grand Final - we'd be better off with Minson in 2017 and probably 2018 as well.

After that you'd hope one of the Kings or a young 2016 draftee would better than either an ageing Minson or a mid age Spencer

Just hope another club sees something in Mr Spencer ( Some Mothers do 'ave em )! We might be able to do something with the very high pick we could get for him

Think I am safe, Jamar was dumped and he was in similar position to Minson, why would we then get Minson a year later, all this talk about another ruckman? Mahoney said fwd/ruck, though nothing would surprise me these days   Vickery to Hawthorm astounds me even given their past record on recycled players

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
