Our skipper that day was 28 years old.

This year, he turned 80.

It's been a long wait.

Too long.

Just

Wow!!!

Another year ticks over since the last one.

A day closer to the next one.

I was sitting behind the goals at the punt rd end, up in the great southern..............never forget it.

What was the crowd like that day? Were we outnumbered by Collingwood back then?

But will i live long enough to see the next one?

I farken hope so

I remember that day clearly. I managed to get a ten shilling standing room ticket from a scalper .Got there early to get a good view in the Southern  Stand behind the goals at the Jolimont end. Saw the the under nineteens win the premiership...can't remember who played in the seconds . By the time the main game began a north wind had sprung up which made conditions a little difficult. In front of a huge crowd I was hoping for an easy win after our second semi demolition of the Maggies. It was a tight struggle and my three  hour ordeal looked like heading for disaster after Gabelich kicked "that goal". Somehow Crompton managed to seal it...what a relief being surrounded by Collingwood supporters who thought they had it. I had to ask someone who kicked the goal as there was no such thing as a replay screen.and I could barely see over the fence. Dixon and Adams were the stars I remember, Barassi had a frustrating day and my John Lord kicked two goals. That's my recollection  of our last Premiership. at the time there was a real feeling we had got out of jail rather than elation.

I have a sympathy for the Bulldogs in these finals. I know it makes our record worse if they win, but I see the supporters and feal their pain.

Why? It's not as if we have been showered with success in the last 52 years

That's exactly why. They have been as hopeless as we have.

Fair call. But i don't feel sympathy. I just hope they beat GW$ because they are more desperate and i hope the MFC watch it closely!!

No we were the most dominant club by a mile just like Hawthorn now/past. Every kid had a Melbourne jumper and we were cocky as hell! That day we outnumbered the Collingwood supporters...... but not by a huge margin as Collingwood were still a top club back then.

not when you consider mfc was the only club who played home games at the mcg and most suburban grounds struggled to fit in 20k people and most in standing room

Which is why we should control the AFL like the Masons control governments and warfare.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
