He's a small forward, very low on confidence, getting smashed around by bigger bodies in terrible conditions. You suggest he's not trying. That's my issue.

Stopped trying? Did you see today's game? Were you there? Were you there last Saturday? Form has been off but he hasn't "stopped trying".

Unbelieveable, everybody was rapt when Jeff signed 2 weeks ago, 2 poor weeks and people are whinging about his contract already, Would have you put a performance based deal infront of him after what he's done in the last couple of seasons, i bet 2 weeks ago you wouldn't have even considered it.

Garlett has been outstanding since crossing from Carlton. Has had a slight dip in form. Don't think he was signed for his tackling prowess. Really tough to be criticized here. He will be back.Just needs some confidence. Impossible in that pig swamp for his type of player.If he didn't 'try' neither then did Hullett,Pedersen and Co.Absolute nonsense.

He'll get a chance next week to show what he can do on a better surface. Anyone who has seen the new surface at Ballarat Nth would be amazed.           He may freeze to death though and about then he will realize he needs to get on his bike if he wants to get back in the Snr's and avoid this unpleasantness.

Having watched the Williamstown v Port game earlier in the year with a gale blowing down the ground and the centre being a decent mud heap, some of the comments seem a little over the top. It's VFL, not games in a domed stadium each week. 

Last week at the G was wet, the game at Gold Coast was a water slide. It happens.

No it doesn't.Can live with a poor centre wicket and a wind. Casey fields is in a rain belt,wind swept and basically a centre wicket for the entire ground. Arguably,if not, the worst ground in the VFL. Most definitely holds back the development of our young players and those attempting to regain form.'Wet' at AFL level is a stratosphere away from what we saw today and unfortunately we seemingly have to accept in the future.

Is it not possible to train our guys to win in the wet? If we were a horse and cannot win in the wet then we would be a scratching.

I agree with this. I watched the equivalent of two quarters, spread out over the full game. From a Melbourne supporters point of view it was nigh on unwatchable. Casey just played very poorly, no clean handling, dropped marks, poor disposal. What was worse was that apart from Spencer and Newton, Melbourne listed players were almost invisible.

The ground certainly did not seem to be a bog. Generally the wind was not a significant influence and was not mentioned as such in the commentary. A couple of squalls swept through, but I have seen far, far worse conditions at other VFL grounds.

By all accounts, Casey and Box Hill played a terrific game there a few weeks ago. This was just a horrible game by Casey. Very disappointing, but to point the finger at the ground just doesn't seem justifiable to me.

As you say, you're making a judgement on 1/2 a game of footy. I've watched us out at Casey for 7 years. I hate watching footy there. I can't imagine it would be much fun to play there. I watch every MFC game too. They may as well be playing on different continents.

My comment is only in reference to todays conditions and the influence they had on Casey's performance and skills.

You're obviously taking the pissBox Hill game was pre any reasonable amount of rain .Regardless,yes Casey were not good enough,however, is not the point and secondary. Development of our players to play at AFL level in AFL conditions is seriously compromised here. Virtually two different games. Fortunately Weideman I demand didn't play. Hullett was rendered useless as was Garrett. None of these players will EVER have to endure this quagmire at the elite level. Yet this is our home ground when so many other options exist. This is not even considering the inaccessibility of the venue,shocking viewing conditions and the lack of groundswell of support that was expected from the eastern corridor. Casey Fields is the MFC Afghanistan.

Not sure what grounds you've been to recently, however, of the aligned AFL clubs Casey Fields are easily the worst.

Collingwood, StKilda, Footscray, Essendon, Geelong and Richmond play in 'AFL' type conditions all year round.

North, Hawthorn and Carlton (although do play some games at the excellent Princes Park) less so although these venues are well ahead of CF at their worst.

Frightening thing is, worth more rain on the way, Casey Fields will get worse. Laughable if it wasn't so detrimental.

You are dead right. The pies play and train at pristine premises but handled the conditions well. Casey were crap today no excuses.

I think it's as simple as Jeffy just doesn't play well in the wet.

He likes to use his pace to run on top of the ground so when his main weapon is taken from him he struggles a bit

I have been saying this for years! The sooner this [censored] alignment concludes and we develop our own, "Stand Alone" team playing out of the old Brunswick St Oval, or grab a piece of Punt Rd or develop Gosh's paddock the more and earlier this footy team ( Melbourne) will start to bear fruit and see the benefit!

Agree, Arctic park in sub zero conditions, in a souless, substandard ground, in a souless team called Casey WHICH aint even a Suburb!

Peter Jackson, Get rid of this!
