He averages 3rd at Melb. for centre clearances and 4th for total clearances.  

He's an incredible inside talent, who'll get better every game.

Amazed no one is recommending Kennedy for the chop. He has been ordinary for a few weeks now. Would have to come close.

I wouldn't say "ordinary"... maybe "least best" :P. I thought he was good against Collingwood, and worked hard against Richmond; but we know that someone has to make way for Petracca, and Kennedy has the double disadvantage of being a like-for-like swap and having been a bit ordinary in his last game.

 

edit: he worked his way into my favourite list in his first 4 games, so it would definately be harsh to leave him out.

He also averages our 5th highest champion data "points per minute" behind only Viney, Gawn, Vince and Tyson.

I'm looking forward to him being able to run out more than 65% game time.

Not sure about Tyson. But jack Viney is leading the comp in clearances. Max Gawn is leading the comp hit outs.

The stat you've picked out is warped by his high ratio of mid-minutes combined with his clearance strength.

It's a safe presumption. And since most peeps are suggesting we drop a forward in either Frost or Brayshaw to make way for him, one of these three will have to play forward.

Two things...

Those stats are for the last two years and don't include 2016.  And they are correct based on output.

Yep exactly. And not like I'd anchor him to the goal square. Just at Etihad there's less space for Watts to lead up from a deep position and more chances to get quick one on ones. That NAB challenge game is the template and not only should Hogan have kicked 5 or more but Watts was probably top 3 best on as a half forward. His ability to lead out to the far side of the ground and to use the ball aggressively was a standout.

Watts has been very good this year and Hogan has been solid for the last 3 weeks.

The game plan is not to leave one deep and one up the ground for any great length of time. Hogan has been up the ground and deep as has Watts. It is obvious to me that both these forwards can play both and this is a strength. Most backs prefer to be either stay at home and wrestle like Dunn or be more mobile like McDonald. Therefore with Hogan and Watts alternating deep and up the ground means they will have to rotate defenders on them which to me is already a plus for us.

Anyone who goes to traIning or regularly posts here knows that Petracca and Brayshaw are very close.  They were drafted together and while their journey has been different they've clearly got a very close bond.  Brayshaw would be desperate to run out with Petracca in his first game.  

I'm not sure if clubs take these things into account, but for many here, including me, there's a feeling that Brayshaw won't share this moment.

I agree with this - it is interesting that there was perception at the Pies that he wasted the ball.

Even though he has been quieter every touch he has had over the last 3 weeks has been really meaningful.

Yep - the moment in my avatar says it all really.  It'll be sad irony if Brayshaw makes way for Petracca, but that's life.  I agree that it looks pretty likely to happen - if it does, hopefully we get to see the same photo with the positions reversed after the game.

It is a bit disappointing. I share the sentiment.

That said, when they lift the Premiership Cup together in the next few years, I suspect that'll make up for Brayshaw's disappointment this Saturday.

 

There's a general sentiment here in the Frost/Pedo discussion that Frost has a higher ceiling compared to Pedo who is currently offering slightly more. While I don't necessarily disagree, some food for thought - Pedo has only played 50 or so games and is just into his 6th season without having had a great run at it (and while playing in multiple positions).

He seems to have a lot of the right tools and ranks highly in league contested marks but rather than impact games just pops up here and there. He also seems to be still improving a bit this year after making a decent jump when Roos first came on board. Forgetting his age while also noting the old adage about big men taking longer, is it possible we haven't yet seen Pedo anywhere near his best and it could still all just click at some stage?

In: Petracca - while he may not provide the same run, I'm sure he'll cover Frost for forward pressure acts.  “I can’t wait to get out there and get a first tackle . . .”  Then there's that thing about forwards kicking goals.

My concern is that although the Saints are fast they still have lots of talls even if Riewoldt doesn't play. WE made the mistake against Essendon of going too short and paid for it. Frost and Pederson are necessary and the only real ruck backup for Max. IMO they stay in. Hunt has surprised me with his ability to get to a contest and compete when the opposition appears to be clear and Wagner is so balanced and assured, both should stay. With Trac in, like for like, I think Harmes has a rest and Oliver in for Angus who struggled last week unless their are injuries as suggested to Salem.
