It's the same side.  Gawn had two Acl's same side - so there is hope.   I have huge sympathy for the kid - I am 4 months post ACL reco and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.  The recovery is long slow and painful (although I don't have physio on tap like professional athletes do).

There is hope for sure, some guys are playing AFL after 4 which is crazy to think about.

I gave up my footy after 2 ACL reconstructions on my left knee so I know exactly what you are going through. Still to this day it is the absolute worst pain when it snaps. My biggest tip for you as a lot of others will say, is to consistently do the rehab exercises to try and get full movement of the knee. It will always operate as normal but getting full movement of it is the key.

Cheers for your advice!  I have had a few rehab complications.  Each day things gets a bit easier so I'm sure I'll be right eventually.

Poor kid. Hugely rated by Jason Taylor and his team. The bushies staff have a glowing endorsement of this kid.

While its rotten luck its the perfect opportunity for him to add size to his frame and re build his body. He is an intelligent footballer so i have no doubt his development will only be fast tracked.

Unlke some here I tend to agree.

Sure it is far better never to do an ACL, nobody can deny that,  but given that it has happened our now professionally run club can and no doubt will help him both with his physical rehab, and his overall footy development.

There are lots of things he can do re general, upper body  and core strength in the gymnasium and the pool, whilst not using his knee.

Lots to learn from observing and listening, and remaining involved

So, provided his surgery and his rehab go to plan, whilst a big setback it should not be the total disaster that some see it to be.

Gee I did the same ACL 3 times and played on, benefit of the best surgeons the Army could buy      these days the knee takes great delight in not locking after I have been sitting a while   good fun

Exactly my point mate. Its gut wrenching for the kid and while we all love an injury free list the whole year its a blessing in disguise for his development in the long term.

Its a pitty that sorry individual couldn't understand the simplest point we are trying to make in terms of development off field.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
