If anyone knows. Does the other players in the AFL support the EFC players, or are they really annoyed about how they have acted and what they have tried to get away with?

its a good question and I suspect individuals will differ. The joke of a players assoc however support them....because we all know who's hand is up their .......

I feel that behind the scenes the AFL via the Union has been telling the players firstly that they would not get a suspension and is now urging them to appeal.

The AFL should be actively discouraging the players but when you have a CEO who says he feels the players were innocent and feels for them.

Then it is obvious that the players will keep on keeping on as they believe that the AFL thinks they are in the right.

"Sword of Damocles" hanging over Gil I say

So far Gil the Dil has one credit.

He got the price of food down and that was probably achieved by bludgeoning the suppliers into it.

Every other area has a demerit against him he may well go down as being the worst AFL CEO.

Hate to open a hornets nest. But if some other clubs are participating in similar "on the edge" regimes, they might get more support than what we expect.

IMO dc the job should have been given to an outsider the AFL is an old boys club which explains why he got the job.

The AFL is desperately in need of a new broom with no allegiances to the insiders.

Gil inherited the mess. Not even Houdini could get out of that one.

He was an integral part of the mess and then promoted to the top job to ensure the boat did not get rocked.

He has to go along with a dozen of his mates.

Not exactly competent decision maker if you lined him up against Tony and Colonel Klink

His handling of the mess has been appalling though, as has Essendon's, Dimetriou's, The Commission's, the AFLPA's, most of the media's (due to accreditation issues), the former federal government, and most of all the EFC and players legal teams! The only people who come out of this with any credibility are Andruska, McDevitt, the team at ASADA, and the team at WADA. Might just be because they are the only ones who have bothered to understand what is actually going on!

he may have inherited the mess up to point, but he was never going to be the one to fix it up

Gil is a classic case of someone manouevring themselves into a position then finding they are ill equipped to do it.

She says things like this:

"Arguments about CAS supposedly “tampering” with evidence are so laughably asinine, they belong in booze-filled bars and online fan forums. But they are being quietly propagated among some footy officials, and on radio by commentators.

"Absurd, too, is the suggestion the CAS verdict has been torn apart by legal experts. Presumably, the same geniuses, who were hopelessly wrong in predicting that players were unlikely to receive infraction notices, in advising them to join the failed Federal Court action, and in opining that they were safe from bans at CAS, are now claiming a Swiss Federal Tribunal appeal is a sound idea."

And this:

"It’s likely that those signing up for the last-ditch appeal aren’t aware of the fate of tennis player Guillermo Canas. The former world No. 8 was successful in having his CAS finding annulled in the Swiss Federal Tribunal, but after the case was reheard at CAS, he was given the same penalty."

And also refers to Ing's point about the need for de novo hearings being essential because otherwise a sports body could simply tank on a prosecution and WADA would be stuffed on appealing.

Thanks Dr, much appreciated.

About bloody time someone in the media told it like it really is. My head spins at the amount of propaganda, and downright lies coming out of the mouths of afl media, and the drug cheats camp.

They must think everyone is so stupid.

Wait, actually, I think they are on to something there. Most people are just that.

A lot of Essendon supporters Ive run into including my eldest ( lol ) are all deniaisits !!  Havent met ONE yet that says..we need to cop it sweet etc

Same.

I wish them all the pain in the world. I wish their drug cheating club would fold, and fade into history, but we can clearly see that the afl has plans for them to return to the top asap. You know, big crowds are good for business and all that. Dill gets a nice bonus when crowds are up.

Every single essedon supporter I have ever met, turns into an arrogant pig as soon as footy is mentioned. Even seemingly nice folk. Its in their blood, like a virus.

The new Drug Lords theme song

We owe we owe because off to Switzerland we go.

I'm staggered.  Just how does getting the player off on a technicality clear their reputations?  Even more so when the technicality is that new evidence that helped prove their guilt should not have been admitted.

As for the EFC insurers paying for this, I guess they assume there is a small chance they will get off.  So it is worth a bet of $500K  on it.  That may just save them an enormous payout that dwarfs the $500K gamble.  I expect they are simultaneously hiring lawyers to find an angle whereby they can dodge paying EFC if they lose.

Interesting insurance claim to say the least, possible contract breaches there..... club breached its duty of care to the players, players acting outside the clubs code of conduct, acting in a manner likely to bring the club into disrepute...etc etc....if they do payout, good luck finding another insurer in the future....

When the AFL seek to 'protect' the brand, it ceases to be a game that has passion. They are treating it like a business and people(fans/players) don't follow businesses, they follow passion.

People expect fair according to the rules. They also understand that there are unfair moments, not everything ends in a fairytale. And not everything can have a clause "because it makes great viewing"

The fans are not stupid and don't like to be handled.

The only bit I object to CT is that the game is not as good as viewing as it was before the multi interchange happened.

I remember when they used to have mud in July. The games all look the same from up North and out west.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
