The staggering thing about the Essendon saga is that the AFl wants us to believe what happened at Essendon was confined to Essendon. What we know for sure is that Mr Danks had previous associations with AFl clubs, and I am led to believe that the ex Geelong Coach, Bomber Thompson, not only used Danks' services at Geelong, but also brought him over to Essendon.

I am not implying Danks and Geelong and Thompson did anything untoward at Geelong, I am implying, however, that Mr Danks did not invent the wheel.

All in all, the AFL has been very keen to not only bury its head in the sand, but very keen to promulgate a culture that encourages this ostrich-like behaviour in the media, hence encouraging fans of AFL to believe the unbelievable,I.E. that there are no drug cheats in the AFL.

Well, speaking about icebergs, it's also unbelievable that what has now been confirmed as a solid drug culture in the Ben Cousins days at West Coast was isolated to West Coast.

It's about time the AFl came clean and stopped this dangerous notion that what happened at Essendon was/is confined to Essendon.

    # its about time that every AFL listed player,  & also all payed officials have their hair samples taken, tested & stored for future tests,,, on a monthly basis.

    This will keep the footy code clean, from the top down.

    The beauty of the decision is I actually believe it is a win for the little guys.

    How often when there is a whiff of wrong-doing do the people paid to derail these things, to sweep it under the carpet and keep it away from public consumption win the day and "bad" people get away with their acts of low moral, disgusting practices.

     

    Even now Hird is suggesting it was a miscarriage of justice, and journo's that were / are compromised by their false and slanted reporting are wringing their hands and bemoaning how this could have played out the way it did. 

    And you're right, dieter the stink over the game is worse than a hot day down at Altona when the seaweed goes off.

     

    But me I'm happy. One of my pet "hates" is people in high positions of responsibility shi##ing all over the people they are meant to be taking care of. Thinking they are beyond reproach. I reckon it's a win for the people, even Essendon supporters, who at least now can be rid of that disgusting human being and understand what he did to the club.

    Fair enough. I was going from reports on what may have been used and the stuff mentioned wasn't on the banned list until 2012.

    This is a very poor analogy.

    Melbourne did what many had done before, and what was not and is not against any law or regulation of the AFL.

    What EssUndone did was and is contrary to the clearly oft stated rules of the AFL and virtually every sporting body.

    Mono, you redefined my comparison so that you could invent a flaw in an analogy I did not make. I made no mention of the comparative legality. My comparison holds up just fine - it is clearly between two entities which were eventually pinged for doing what others had been doing, only more flagrantly.

At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

      Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack.
