Bump.

Certainty: Jones (C).

Likely: Dunn. Viney. T Mac. Garland. Vince.

Possibility (one or two of): Lumumba. Trengove. Gawn. Hogan. Watts. Dawes. Jetta.

Wouldn't say Garland is likely, Ron. Barely scrapes into the possibility category.

Seen a couple of team photos now with Vince standing alongside Jonesy/Roos. May possibly be a change in vice duties on the cards.

Jack Viney will lead this club to a premiership - beginning with a LG position in 2016.

Born leader.

I saw that Gawn stated his desires to be in the LG yesterday. While I think he's great player and admire his aspirations, the most games he's ever played in a season is 13. I think he should focus on continuing to improve his own game and staying on the park before he's elevated to the LG.

I think it is good that our young players feel free to express their desire for leadership roles. It doesn't mean they have to be granted, at least not yet. It gives Roos and Goodwin the opportunity to coach Maxy in leadership behaviours over the next couple of years which can only be a good thing.

Perhaps. I reckon Garland is really respected by the player group and that Roos rates him highly.

Agree with your comment about Vince though. I'll be surprised if, at a minimum, he's not in the LG.

In the interview he said more along the lines of "due to leaders being injured (Jones, Vince) and he did a full pre season he felt more in a leadership role this pre-season and he enjoyed it." also said "felt a little uncomfortable trying to lead at all last year"

Definitely media playing up his quotes, but he has had his first full pre season in 7 years and will have our number 1 ruck spot locked down for 4-5 years barring injury.

Nev Jetta is my big smoky. Hugely respected amongst the playing group and i know he has been doing a fair bit of mentoring with Christian Salem and alot of the young kids.

I think Jetta would make a terrific leader.

I can't believe anyone thinks Lumumba should be in. What has he ever done that looks remotely like leadership?

I would have: Jones ©, Dunn (VC), Viney, McDonald, and one more - happy for that to be Grimes if he looks like being best 22.

I hated Lumumba with a passion at Collingwood and thought he played uncountable football. He is at Melbourne now , so I will give him the benefit of the doubt. Had problems with his shins last year and has had surgery to correct that. I think we will see a different Lumumba this year onfield but he is not a leader.

Based on the Team Photo I would think the Leadership will consist Of N.Jones, B. Vince, L. Dunn & T.McDonald

I reckon there is a huge chance Vince is vice captain this year.

After NAB2, I think Viney and Vince are locks and Dunn by virtue of being last year's VC.   Am less convinced that TMac gets a guernsey.  4 is probably not large enough - need at least one more, maybe two.  Lumumba, Dawes, TMac and even Jack Watts could be in the running.  Trengove would have been a shot if he was further advanced.  Are they announcing it this week or next?

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
