I know he was overlooked a couple of years ago but Jake Best was very stiff not to get rookied a few years ago. Has just gone back to Leongatha and won the goal kicking with 81 goals. I think he would be worth a look. Fast has great goal sense and when he was at Casey made Melbourne listed players look second rate!!

Thoughts?

No

Best left Casey where he would have been under the watchful eye of the Demons as well as scouts from other clubs. We need to know why he went back home but the inference is that an AFL career is not uppermost in his mind. Was he told something, did he just work out he wouldn't make it or did he simply decide he had other priorities? Probably a combination of all of those things but in any event, I don't think much of his chances. He had a good season at Casey in 2013 but like the rest of the team, underwhelmed in 2014.

He was working as the manager of Genesis gym in Doncaster while playing with Casey last year.

The gym closed down he left Casey moved up to the bush to play footy and cricket.

No chance of getting picked up I would say.

He would've been under the eye of recruiters this year at Leongatha, as Aaron Heppell also played down at Leongatha this year. I think Heppell alternated between Bendigo Bombers and Leongatha, but mostly played for Leongatha. So Best still would've been in the eye of recruiters this year. Best would still be a good fit for the Dees.

Half right, didn't move to the bush. Still lives in Melbourne. May have bought a house and the offer of playing for good money instead of vfl money would of been enough.. Especially after he was pretty much over looked after a ripper 2013, but like casey in 2014 struggled, mainly because he was played out of poistion..

He's fast, but what else?

No chance in hell, regardless of what position he was played or how much hard luck he's experienced.

Yes, I can just imagine all 18 AFL clubs sending their scouts to Leongatha on a regular basis to watch Heppell's brother who is at best a fringe player with the Essendon VFL side (the Bendigo Bombers folded last year) and Jake Best. Good thinking.

Best also kicked 6 in a winning grand final this weekend.. Just saying..

Give it rest mate

Unfortunately Jake did not kick any in the grand final, although was the leading goal kicker in the league- he kicked bags against the minnows of the league which included Warragul where my son played against him. Leongatha lost the grand final to Traralgon, Heppell was named best for Leongatha. On his day Best is too good for this league, however I don't think he would make it at the elite level.

Thanks for the update Jake.

Very long shot to make it. Wouldn't think he is going to get a look in.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
