haha funny you mention Joe rugolo I was thinking multicultural round this week and i though of ol smokin Joe and his brother Frank (what a combo) best VFL forward line in the business and thought be a good thread to go through past players of MFC with different backgrounds (if not done already) Jaka, Rugolo boys, Yze, Petracca.....!

'Chopper' Lovell used to tell a great story about Jako at training where there would be times where Jako would train for 10-15 minutes, claim he needed to go to the toilet and then not return.

It's also been mentioned that during these times things would go missing from a few peoples bags as well.

I still love the great man. What a player he was!

I like to think i'm just about his greatest fan as a player but his off field escapades were colourful to say the least . I have personal knowledge of interesting financial interactions with publicans and TAB agents , stories fit only for the Blazer Bar rather than Demonland .

I started going to the football in 1990 as a 4-year-old. I don't remember the early years but I remember parts of 92, 93, 94 vividly. I was at that game at Vic Park, sitting in the pocket I think, near the Melbourne cheersquad and surrounded by VB-guzzling filth supporters. They were giving it to Jako hard all day.

94 was amazing. Round 1 was special because we were on top after we smashed Geelong and I was super excited because I'd never experienced supporting the best club in the league, even if it was temporary. Evidently, we haven't been on the top of the ladder after a round only once since, in 2004.

His last game against Hawthorn at Princes Park was special. I can't remember if his injury came in that game, or if we knew it would be his last game. I'm certain I remember going into it thinking it was a shame he wouldn't play again. Anyway, kicked 8 goals, we smashed the Dawks. I was sitting behind the goals. It was a God-like performance.

Not sure we'd have won the flag if he had stayed, not sure anyone would have beaten the Eagles at the WACA in the Prelim, but it certainly would have improved our chances.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

    It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval.     With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.
