Has Bernie Vince become our best player?

Featured Replies

James Frawley the last demon AA??

Frawley and Jamar, 2010.

Bernie was superb on saturday. Can't say it enough.

It was like a couple when it was getting close Bernie would just slam the ball on his boot and say "Bugger that!"

Bernie's possible AA inclusion being discussed in the media is going to make things interesting come season's end. Would be a fantastic story to see it happen.

Ill be [censored] if he doesn't make the AA team

Really showed up pendles, hes great to watch in space but not super accountable.

This is depressing:

We only have 2 All-Australians on the list.

Jamar and Lumumba.

On the other hand I would far prefer a successful TEAM than an ordinary team with several AAs.

It would only be depressing if you'd just woken from a 10 year coma.

I think it more depressing to live through the last 10 years of MFC offal.

Another top-notch performance yesterday by Bernie - he kept the in-form Armitage to his lowest possesion tally of the year, whilst racking up 38 possesions of his own (on the way to a perfect 10 in the coaches votes).

A question for everyone: Has the growth in Vince's defensive game and his overall toughness made him (currently) the best player on our list?

Personally I believe he's on his way to the Bluey at the moment; such a well rounded player - A silky smooth, goal kicking mid who's also our new number one stopper.

Interested to hear some opinions.

You called it early 'Scythe'! Goodwin is singing from your song book! http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2015-08-12/goodwin-says-vince-better-than-bf-year

'Goodwin...who played with Vince for five seasons at the Crows, including 2009, said he rated the 29-year-old’s 2015 even better than when he won the Malcolm Blight Medal six years ago'.

He also gave Jack V a ripping endorsement: “He’s an exceptional player, Jack. He’s a little terrier in there and I think we’re a few goals better team when he’s in the team...”

I'm guessing we all agree that 'terrier' is a perfect word!

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.

The Demons lacked some polish but showed a lot of heart and took it right up to the Bulldogs in an attempt to spoil their finals hopes ultimately going down by a goal at the MCG.
