Goal of the round

Surely Jeff Garlett's boomerang goal was deserving of a nomination? The eagles player's goal was on the run, not far out and almost directly in front. No player pressuring him. A very straight forward, standard goal.

The judges don't watch Melbourne games BM

It has to be the Betts goal from the right pocket.

I'm always disappointed to see that set shots are rarely (if ever) nominated for goal of the year. Some set shots require even more skill and focus than most typical running goals. Jeffy's shot from the boundary is one of the best you will ever see.

It's goals like that which remind you he is Buddy's cousin. Talent coming out his ears.

Agree and history says the set shots are harder at times because we see players slot ridiculous running shots from odd angles when they don't have to think about it but then next quarter miss a set shot from 30 metres in front. It is in the head of course. Jeff's banana from the boundary was extraordinary and important at the time and deserved a nomination.

Huh? Really??....gee didnt know that....cool.

For me it was Hogan 55 seconds into the game that was the best of the round.

But I may be a little bias.

I suppose Mick Malthouse's own goal today doesn't count?

Dummy spit of the year, more likely ...

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
