The Rising Star Thread - Congratulations Jesse Hogan!

It was a pleasure to see your first season Jesse.

Feels so good to know we have a star in the ranks now. Stay healthy and lead us to the finals please

Call an ambulance, Judd is killing me with boredom.

Play the Oscar get off the stage music already.

No wonder Jesse got [censored] faced.

If he was my coach I would burn my ear canals with acid.

Although his comments on veterans ring true; and I wonder whether getting rid of Cross was a good move. It certainly killed us when we got rid of Junior.

hence why i have said numerous times: i hope it was his choice to leave.

lol wish I thought of that 2 hours ago or whenever that speech started.

Hogan interviewed by my all time favourite player Jonathan Brown *swoon*

Now back to talking to some duds I don't care about. This should be the Hogan show people!

Simply sensational. Congratulations to him and all at the club who busted their butts to try and improve over the year and get plenty of ball to our Rising Star. We may not be consistently good at delivery i50 compared to the higher ranked clubs...yet.

But we must have done something right! Most likely our conversion rate as we ranked a lowly 16th in both i50s and marks i50. Oh hang on....the Hulk! Ranked 6th of all current day players (and 13th vs all players past and present day from 1965 till now!) in goal kicking conversion with a whopping 69.84%! That's just above the greatest FF of all time, plugger, who finished on an amazing 69.74% in 16th place (rankings based on players who had, or have had, a minimum 50 scoring shots at goal throughout their career. Lets hope we can build some momentum out of this positive news and finally start stringing a few wins in a row together next year. Watching the Hulks progress is gonna be interesting. 2nd year is usually the toughest for most new blokes. Fingers crossed.

A rather interesting exchange on Twitter; not sure how to take it... hopefully a bit of friendly banter:

total banter.

Cross has said a couple of times he was hoping to go around again. Was club's decision.

Peter Jackon's grin says "if you think of leaving I will hunt you down and kill you"

Not dissimilar to Cripps at the Rising Star...

Not dissimilar to Cripps at the Rising Star...

Felt kind of bad for Cripps. You could see he was devo watching Hogan go up on stage.

I just hope awards like these & the Brownlow are won by non midfielders... Can't remember last time a full forward , Blackman or ruck won something ... Too much emphasis on how many possessions etc rather the impact a player has on a game.. Eg full back keeping a forward goalless & how many spoils & marks they take

Goodes 2 x Brownlows

Danyle Pearce Rising Star

Buddy Franklin Coleman Medal

I won a bet with my Carlton mate over this. Finally winning things that are football-related.

Massive congrats to Jesse, this is just the beginning though. He's got many more levels he can go and you can see how driven the bloke is. Can't wait to see what 2016 onwards holds for him.

Also congrats to Gus, a very deserving top 5. Had a sensational year rounded out by what I reckon is the picture of the year, chairing off Crossy's son was the act of champion human being and future leader.

Just imagine the player Hogan will be with a competent midfielder feeding him. Could be the next 80+ goalkicker.

Speaking of leadership, he and Jonesy were the two that went over to Cross and made sure he was alright as he was being placed on the stretcher against GWS. Leader written all over him.

Offer him a 7 year, $6 million contract ASAP

I'd happily pay him $7mill over that time.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
