AFL Round Table on Fox

Featured Replies

Hogan , Garlett and Lumumba should make us at least a four goal better side than last year.

Factor that in and we would have won eight or nine games last year if they were playing.

I would settle for no less than six to eight wins this year, but hoping for more if something clicks of course.

Having low expectations doesn't mkae missing finals any easier.

Having realistic expectations doesn't make getting to the finals any harder.

I think it can, I like the Ken Hinkley attitude of when he spoke to players like Kane Cornes by saying he would extend their careers.

Positive attitude.

I remember a Hawthorn coach saying they could win the flag and they did not make the finals.

What's your point?

I've never said it guarantees succcess try reading what I write. All I'm saying is that I expect to play finals every year.

I love how people point to our recruits as being a sign that we have improved, yet conveniently forget that other teams may have improved also. I'll be amazed if we win more than 4 games this year, and there is not a single game that I would confidently say we will win.

Let's not forget that we had less scoring shots than our opponents in every one of our losses last year, considerably less in three of them. Bad kicking for goal was the only thing between us and a winless season last year.

No.,

We had more scoring shots in losses than

Saints in Round 1

Brisbane Round 19

And in the two losses to the Bulldogs they had just 1 more scoring shot both times

Correct and I gave you an example of when it did not.

In the end Clint I will go back to

You must have had a hard decade.

This place is going to be hell when GC pummel us by 10 goals.

And by "hell" I mean a circus because it'll be entertaining.

No harder than any other Melbourne supporter.

On that we are in total agreement

A lot of so called experts tipping us to finish last now. I am concerned. I really was positive until the Essendon game. We looked like [censored]!

If everyone expects this club to be shitehouse and useless every year it will be

AIM Higher collectively. We may win 6 games this year but it is not good enough. The dark clouds of Neeld etc are gone. 2 preseasons ago.

I get what Beez is saying and agree

I seriously doubt it makes any difference what we on here feel or say Sir.

The club either has a group of players capable of improving results or they don't.

Over the last eight years we ( the MFC ) clearly have not had that group.

Wishing and hoping by supporter groups makes no difference to a players ability.

Two years ago the same group said Port were hopeless and would finish last.

I remember a Hawthorn coach saying they could win the flag and they did not make the finals.

didn't know malthouse coached the hawks

I think it does make a difference when the whole MFC Supporter base just expects the team to be shitehouse every year.

That is the feeling i get. People just accept rubbish and say "oh well"

I am not talking about the last decade.

I am talking about next week and beyond

The list is vastly better. And if Hogan finds his mojo we gave a genuine target that crumbing forwards can work off

I will be honest, I am worried. Our overuse of the ball and constant desire to handball backwards is not a great game plan. We [censored] our pants under pressure. We rack up a lot of possession around the back half because we overuse the footy. I like the injection of Garlett and H but I see very little from a number of players that have been on the list long enough now (Watts, Toump, Matt Jones). I can't see a drastic improvement on the horizon. Happy to be proven wrong tho

Yes, and some on here are championing this team based on the legislatively irrelevant statistic of 'Last Quarter Leads' from 2014.

I wonder if we won 6 games but had 15 'Last Quarter Leads' - how would that be seen?

15 wins in 2016 and the flag?

I seem to recall that at one point in every game last season we were level pegging with our opposition. ( then that horrible man in white bounced the ball for the first time in the game)

What's your point?

I've never said it guarantees succcess try reading what I write. All I'm saying is that I expect to play finals every year.

The brain is a wonderful thing.

I go to the footy every week with belief that we can win - if all our players are on fire and the opposition is 5% off its game. I would not go to the footy if I did not believe that this week will be the week we turn it around and win. That's the dreamer in me

If I was asked every week do I realistically expect us to win - nearly every week the answer would be no - that's the logical nutbean

I have the belief every year we can make the finals - if we have great improvement like Port Adelaide had - the other fancied teams have form slumps and injuries. - dreamer nutbean

If I was asked if I realistically thought we will make the finals this year - the answer is a definite no. Logical nutbean

It's great being a gemini and having split personalities.

So you are a June boy like me nutbean.

Good luck with the dreamer nutbean this year.

I could do with being surprised.

PS I think the Logical OD killed the dreamer OD four years ago.

I like your thinking nutbean.

For me, work and bills require logic and realistic management; making the dreaming of culture and sport so very important.
