Jesse Hogan foot scan - all clear

I think all players should take up surfing, paddling around in the cold waters of Victoria can only be good for the body and muscles.

interesting point you make. I wonder what the science is behind the affects of ocean water on the body and if it is beneficial? I think everyone believes its great for your skin to swim in the ocean but is there any science behind it.

Off to google I go....

Pendles does Dailey, he seems to avoid injuries well enough.

Minder was a great show.

He never got hurt somehow.

Obviously relieving to hear he is fine, but seriously, wtf. How unlucky can the bloke be?!

Look at someone like Jones and I honestly can't remember him being in doubt for a game because of inury. He just doesn't get injured.

Then you get a young promising talent who takes a year to get over a serious back injury, and upon return someone stands on his foot which is serious enough to require scans..

All I can hope is that there is no trend emerging here.

It's hard to relax with all the 'luck' we've received over the past few seasons.

Your memory of Jones is incorrect:

Nathan Jones wins a hard ball for Melbourne against the Swans on Sunday

Jones sidelined for six to eight weeks

Matt Burgan

31 August 2010 5:27 PM

NATHAN Jones will be sidelined for six to eight weeks after sustaining two fractured vertebrae and broken ribs.

Jones suffered the injury during Sunday’s clash against North Melbourne at the MCG.

He copped in a knee in the back from North Melbourne forward Aaron Edwards, during a contest.

The hard-at-it Demon was immediately taken from the ground, playing no further part in the match.

Jones spent two nights in hospital, before being released.

Although it was a nasty incident, the tenacious midfielder remains in good spirits.

The 22-year-old has played 92 matches, playing all 22 games in 2010.

He has missed just four matches in four seasonsExclusive to melbournefc.com.au

But that still dodn't stop Jones training with the team in Shanghai a short time later... hard as nails

I'm fairly positive it's pseudo-science. Little more than an embarrassing coincidence that every AFL team does ocean water recovery sessions after matches.

I was reading in a science book once the reason our blood tastes salty is because we originally came from the ocean

Something to do with the salt content being good for cuts and scratches. The stuff to do with muscle recovery I'll leave to the pros, but there's definitely evidence for water being a low impact way of exercising.

I'd say that the salt content, combined with the muscular effect means that teams hit the beach for recovery. They could probably do it in a pool, but it's a good team outing and a decent way to relax after a match when you don't want to be at the training ground. That's without mentioning how refreshing ocean air can be for tired bodies and minds.

Good news, Dees fans. Jesse Hogan back on track after foot scare. Chance to play Saturday v Dogs. tweet from stevo. Probably on ch7 sport tonight.

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
