Training - Friday 9th January, 2015

Training reports are good for finding out about injuries, training focus (fitness or skills), how players are training and what position. But that's about it, you can't read into it too much about how a player will play in the upcoming season, becuase for the most part we already know how good a player is by watching them in games.

Agree, it just gives us an idea of how a particular player's preparation for the season ahead has been travelling, what sort of consistent training block they have behind them, etc.

Personally I'd much rather read Saty giving it to those who brainlessly criticise him for his contribution that the pompous righteousness of RPFC who continually wants to be the school headmaster of the posters here and set us all straight on things we don't really understand. But that's just me and I actually don't support either approach.

As for those who so boldly say they'd have no problem telling a player to his face what they think of him - well bully for you. It says more about you than anything else.

With free speech comes responsibility, something which is sadly lacking here a lot of the time and why I think this once great site has lost so many of its good posters and been reduced to an occasional read and contribution rather than something to be involved in regularly.

I wonder how long it will be until I break my resolution again.

Again, I don't know what your problem is with me - how you chose my post out of all the better nonsense I don't know.

I don't like pointless snarky asides and TDI has given out more than is deserved, he brings more value to this site than many others, but that isn't an excuse to say anything you want.

You once warned me as a mod for the very type of behaviour.

And there are plenty of excellent posters on this site, I am not aware of any decent poster that has left.

I hope TDI continues and I hope I don't have to read the bitter back-and-forth in future training threads.

If that is self-righteous and pompous then DC is right - there is a great deal of thin skin around here.

I reckon we should have Saty thread where people can argue about him to their hearts content for surely he must be the most discussed issue on DL. It would also enable Saty to continue to enjoy the baiting he has admitted n many occasions that he enjoys so much. It might also help the training threads not being derailed.

But life is short. I reckon a good option is to use Ignore or as suggested above by Tim filter out the flotsam and read the bits you like.

But Saty can i make a suggestion. If you film your player interviews and post them on DL you will exponentially grow the number of posters you annoy and fuel untold Saty related debate. Imagine DL posters dissecting your interviews, analyzing body language (are the players genuine or do they really want to run away?) and playing backwards to check for hidden messages. Hours of fun.

What a top idea!, already have a couple of things on film, including Dean Terlich but then again some therapists bills may rise, and we don't want that

RPFC, you will notice there are quite a few readers of this site, but not that many regular posters, why because they don't want to face the wrath of the less enlightened on here if they go against their mindset in a post, most who just read appreciate that I deliberately bait those less enlightened posters, I find it entertaining, it brings their prejudices to the surface

A couple of players have actually said that they have been told not to read Denonland as it is "nothing but negativity", which is sad, I have even told then that it isn't all negativity, so they will provide me with answers, and not clichés, in fact some times I am careful what I ask Daniel Cross in particular as he is so bloody honest in his answers

If everyone came on to Demonland to talk about how good the club is no one would read it.

I agree, but the sadness lays in the fact that the Club thinks it is nothing but negativity

I dunno, I do enjoy Happy Smiling North KoreaLand forum moderated by Kim Jong Un.

I suspect that with so much failure on and off the field those around the club have to cling to only positive things or they will end up in the foetal position.

The nett result is some of the brutal honesty on here means we are a no go zone for people at the club.

They will be back on in 2017 when we are playing finals

The players I've spoken to had never even heard of Demonland, and frankly it means two fifths of stuff all what they think of the place.

Anyone with even a semblance of sense in their cranium understands that this is a forum specifically catered for fans to discuss the club and its players, positive and negative, and that sharing and discussing critiques of players is part of that discussion.

The only "hero" is someone disturbed enough to take joy in baiting and abusing people who choose to take part in that forum and are motivated by nothing but interest in their football club.

I agree the thread should be closed. Nothing more to be gained.

or conversely, no one would believe it.

To be fair to DL - this forum is probably less negative then the other club forums I have read ( in particular Punt Road End ) ...however.....

This little gathering of head cases is a mere reflection of what goes on at all other club fan forums - with the "woes is us" at one end, the "we can never possibly be anything other than magnificent" at the other extreme and then varying shades of posters in between. We have thoughtful, insightful posters vs the reactors who fly off from viewing a split second of football and finally we have the polite " he could do better" against the "he's a giant spit bucket of spud vomit and should never disgrace our jumper again".

The common thread is that anyone who has time to read a football forum like this let alone post is a sad football tragic. ( I am as tragic as they come)

I don't personally attack, like the garbage I receive, but I am man enough to take it, I use humour and a bit of sarcasm, I hope I haven't written too much, don't want you getting your lips in a tangle whilst you read it. Don't read my posts precious

Contradicting yourself in the same sentence, that takes some skill. Love the way you habitually play the victim card while dishing out the attacks.

Back on topic, some of the comments about McDonald are just plain ridiculous

And in true Saty form, backing up the personal attacks with yet more dogmatism. So supporters are "plain ridiculous" for commenting on T-Mac's disposal?

It's a discussion forum; everyone's entitled to state their thoughts without your predictable reproach over every dissenting opinion.

This. Couldn't agree more.

Don't care whether the players read Land at all, nor what they think of our view of them.

I agree the thread should be closed. Nothing more to be gained.

Given that the same circular argument is going to continue in the next training thread, and the one after that, I'm not sure what's to be gained in closing this one down.

Everyone knows Saty's routine by now - if it really bothers you, put him on ignore, or let his responses go through to the keeper. It's really not that hard.

Edit: Actually, on second thoughts..

  • GAMEDAY: Fremantle

It’s Game Day, and the Demons return to the MCG wounded, undermanned and desperate. Still searching for their first win of the season, Melbourne faces a daunting task against the Fremantle Dockers. With key pillars missing at both ends of the ground, the Dees must find a way to rise above the adversity and ignite their season before it slips way beyond reach. Will today be the spark that turns it all around, or are we staring down the barrel of a 0–6 start?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
