WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - SAM FROST

GWS def Sam Frost could join Melbourne in pre-season draft. Frost - to help cover Frawley - for nothing and pick 3 would be a big Dees win.

Yes please.

Sweet. If they're going to be difficult to deal with, they're not really in much of a position to bargain.

Good news,. unless St Kilda shaft us and take him at pick 1

Fair chance membrey could end up at the PSD so I doubt it.

Hopefully Membrey falls through to the PS draft, Saints would take him

2 low rated players shouldn't equal a second round pick.

Plus how much better is Giles as a back up than Pedersen, Fitzpatrick or Gawn? Or as a primary ruck than Spencer? Or even Maxy King.

Not enough to make a trade in my mind. Stick to guys we have who are (somewhat) competent in the position.

Especially if we had plans of taking Peter Wright in the draft. Giles would be just dropping an extra tall back in to the VFL for not a lot of benefit.

GWS got Tom Lamb through the PSD away from Sydney last year. Maybe it's time they lose a player through the PSD.

Don't want to burn the relationship we currently have with GWS. they'll have players to trade in coming seasons, so IMO we want to have a respectful trade relationship with them as they progress.

I'm sure as the offers are all screened, we will be infront of some good deals.

lets take some others from the PSD. especially pie

I would guess that it would be by agreement with GWS. They have no need for a late pick and we may have none to give anyways.

I don't know how many picks they'll want to use, but from the journo's follow-up tweets, GWS may not have much use for later picks. With that in mind, 23 for Frost and 24 could be the best we could offer.

I'm willing to bet that both Frost and Membrey go with late picks to the clubs of their choice. Nothing to gain from their clubs letting them slip to drafts. It just doesn't make sense any other way to me.

I definitely don't want to sour our relationship with GWS, because we've been exceptionally fair with each other over the years.

If he slips to the PSD I'm guessing it would be by mutual agreement. GWS wouldn't want any late picks we could offer, and they know pick 23 is far too high for Frost. Sometimes clubs can bargain on other noteworthy currency, such as not taking certain players with a pick in the draft. For example, we could agree we won't take Petracca if we keep picks 2 & 3 if they give us Frost for nothing in the PSD.

There's no way he's worth a second round pick. In the interests of good faith I'd do the 23 for him and 24.

But I'd rather pick him up in the PSD.

He looks like Chad Cornes in his 2011 underage highlights. From what I recall of seeing him in gws colours he certainly hasn't played like this.

I seem to remember him being a less than reliable kick and in his highlights the kicking action is fluent and looks attractive.

Here's an interview Dom's done with Sam. They have a pretty good reporitorieoere:

Interesting that he's done some ruck work as well... can see why he's so attractive to Roos with Jamar nearing the end.

Good news,. unless St Kilda shaft us and take him at pick 1

Then hope they do the same with Membrey and no problem.

Nah, he can't be any good. According to that interview he's had both hips operated on so that's the end of him

According to the learned Dr. WYL's teachings anyway

GWS might be happy to have the first 'live' pick in the PSD if the Saints with Membrey and us with Frost are otherwise committed.

Sam joined my Dreamteam league a few years ago, sign him up Dees!

Surely Frost won't want to go to that mess in the West, without a clue who his coach will be, with a meddling president, when he can go the PSD and be guaranteed to get to us.

The only problem would be if we lowball him, or the dogs massively overpay him.

Can't really see either happening.

Relax.

I think it's more about GWS throwing him into the Griffen trade. 'Dogs need key defenders. Roughead is ordinary & Morris is brave but a pygmy at CHB

Well Frosty, you better not allow that.

He can still refuse that trade if his heart's set on the Dees, right?

I think that the Bulldogs would be more responsive if they threw Boyd into the Griffen trade. I think that we can relax. GWS aren't stupid and they have had more experience than most Clubs doing trades these last few years (plus they need to retain a good relationship with their preferred trading partners)!

Just looking at the current draft order something like this might work to get the deal done.

Melb pick 23 for GC 29 and 47

47 on traded for Frost.

Melb receive frost for sliding down 6 spots in round 2??

Could also do similar with either WB or carl which would reduce the drop down slightly

Happy to trade Watts, Blease and Strauss for Frost, #40 and #62. Hopefully Cockatoo is there at 23, Daniel at 40, then if Membrey nominates for the Draft, take him at 62 and use 83 on Nev.

Nice thinking, but is there really any incentive for us to get a deal done other than being top blokes? I know we want to eliminate the slight uncertainty of the PSD, but my only offers would be 23 for Frost and 24, or 83 for Frost. Unless of course they want to start talking Shiel at the eleventh hour.

Well we know they want our second rounder. They can have it with pick 3 if they throw in a genuine midfielder.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
