Hey Saty - can I ask - how do you find Damien Barrett ? It is interesting that sometimes the public personae can be totally different to what you get when you have a quiet one on one conversation. It can be a much more positive experience than expected or conversely much worse ! ( Not to get political but I didn't have much time for Peter Reith or Peter Costello - I spent an afternoon at the football with both of them on separate occasions - one of them went up in my estimation and the other was even worse than I expected)

Because as stated on many occasions - players don't inform their clubs of their intentions for that very reason - being dropped. Players have contractual obligations - they can be incentivised in their contract on number of games played, goals kicked, finish in the best and fairest etc. So it may cost them financially to be dropped. To what end does it help the club to know now that he won't be at the Demons next year. The argument of playing someone else in his place is more than countered with the argument that we want to win games. And the preplanning/list management argument is a nonsense. The list managers will have contingencies for him staying and leaving as they would for most uncontracted players.

To date two players have acknowledged prior to seasons end that they were going - Bock with one game to go ( who was promptly dropped) and Davis who was injured and wasnt going to play again anyway.

That's not the question, Arrow needs to state why he is so confident in his assertion about Frawley, would think that Roos wouldn't want to be messed with so if there was even the slightest suspicion that Frawley had made up his mind and was going, he wouldn't be in the team....just saying

He does not have to do anything of the sort. You determine how much confidence you have in him. He does not have to do a damn thing to inspire you. It is by his actions you shall know him...or that sort of thing.

I don't think there is any reason to head towards the NRL model, it doesn't work for them at all and in effect diminishes their competition to a feeder comp for state of origin where the passion remains. I actually prefer the 'rpfc' model.

I played with chips best mate last year, he was traveling up to play etc.. anyways I remember last year he mentioned how disgruntled he was and number of clubs made contact to his manager one was including Gold Coast and Hawthorn. After the season finished he had brief meetings with them in regards to next year and what his plans for were and stuff..

That all makes sense, but it implies that Arrow's source is unreliable because no player manager or player wishing to play their cards close to their chest would tell anyone for it to leak to Arrow.

I don't know if we are heading down the NRL line as we have a far more complex system than the NRL - NRL players have a contract and that's it - when its up you can re-sign or move on so it is much easier for players to move in the NRL than the AFL. We have a National draft and PSD - so how can a non free agent player announce that he is leaving to go to another club - a deal may not get done ?

It would only work for Free agents - they are the only player category who could announce prior to the end of the season that they are going and where they going to.

I despise all this speculation so I actually prefer the NRL transparency. It would hurt to see a player in your colours this weekend who you know will be at another club next but is it any worse than the current Scully/Ablett/Franklin/Frawley charade ?

Ask Cam Smith what he thinks of it. He much prefers our system, I would much rather keep some degree of passion in the game despite the speculation. The only real passion in league is for State of Origin now because it can't be diluted, play around with our game and it would be a major mistake.
