Another Watts topic

Watts has improved this year however the bar has been set pretty low and I suspect a few supporters are applauding average performances. I feel watts will get better over time however Im pretty certain hes never going to be more than a handy player with the odd big game. By the way, that will be good enough in a balanced team.

One aspect of his game which I am constantly bemoaning is his inability to win a one on one contested situation with almost any other sized player. Put the footy on the ground between Watts and an opponent and it will be invariably won by the opposition.

This is such a liability as he is not able to lock the ball in after he has lost the contest. He fails to win the footy and then is outbodied after the contest and more often than not the oppo clears the area.

Additionally, sit the ball in the air in a one on one contest and Watts will struggle against any opponent whether they are 5'10" or 6' 5".

He doesnt have enough c*#t in him unfortuately. In open spaces he can be lethal , which is a great benefit, however in a contest he really can be a liability.

I would love to see someone like Wayne Carey or Stewart Lowe ( I mention these two only because I know theyve done some one on one coaching in the past), be brough to the club to teach Jack to use that big frame he has to his advantage.

Yes I agree WYL, was just commenting on what I feel is his most glaring weakness and what could be done to improve it

JW is a damn good player.

Don't make him something he isn't.

Like you said, Munga, lethal in open spaces, hates the physicality....it is what it is.

The MFC are a better team with him in the line up.

Hey. Just thought of a great idea. You could start "yet another Watts topic". :-)

We obviously haven't had nearly enough of them.

It's all good - boring footy games, drizzly afternoon....JW is a good topic ;)
