As an aside, it does amuse me when the Cheaters wear their powder blue strip, then sing their club song. Just doesn't add up - maybe an alternative song "We are the powder blues....." should be played.

the saints jumper is a hard jumper not to clash with as it has red white and black stripes

carlton has blue panels under the arms, same as us

if they were removed the clash would be significantly less - the area under the armpit tends to show up a lot on tv as the players are running side on to the camera!

Agree - all it does it show how stupid the AFL is for allowing Richmond to adopt a clash jumper that fails to satisfy the SOLE purpose of requiring teams to wear clash jumpers: avoiding a clash!

If they actually required Richmond to design a clash jumper that doesn't clash with other teams then this wouldn't happen.

But that's the AFL - they think it's fine for a team that wears yellow and black to have a clash jumper of yellow and black.

Does anyone else find the preciousness that some clubs (and posters!) have regarding the clash jumpers a tad absurd?

I prefer we played in our traditional jumper (undoubtedly the best one in the league), but if we are playing away than we should be wearing a uniform that provides sufficient contrast with the home team for spectators and players alike.

We can debate about the silly administration of uniform issues on the part of the AFL, or even whether you like the club's alternate strip, but the principal is correct, right?

Port Have every right to be outraged! Time the AFL brought equalisation into the clash jumper arena! EVERY club MUST conform. No exceptions! I reckon Port should defy the AFL, and wear their home jumper this weekend, anyway!

The AFL should fine themselves for bringing the game into disrepute, because this clash jumper situation borders on high farce!!!

I'd suggest 18 clubs it's impossible. You'd max out at about 6-10 teams - Black, white, red, blue, yellow, green, purple and some patterns that would be about it.

Standards have changed due to the modern world we live in that even if we only had the VFL teams only they'd be clashes.

Therefore the home team wears their home guernsey, the away teams wears an acceptable clash. The AFL have stuffed up in not making the Tigers have an appropriate clash.

I have a problem with the AFL mandating that the MFC wear an All White clash strip! That is what I have a problem with. See we were one of the first clubs to accommodate a clash strip, it was all red and avoided clashes! However, the AFL re-invented the colour wheel and deemed red dark colour. What a joke. I hope PJ fights hard over the summer to lobby for a return to all red. The white jumper looks like Sydney, at least add more blue.

Yes and that was probably back in the days when the AFL tried to make each team a different colour. They probably thought teal wasn't taken and they'd be different enough from the blue and black teams, didn't work in 1997 with 16 teams, wont with 18. Come the 2000's and everyone decided (rightly) it was time for proper clashes and Port shifted to the simple black design and figured teams could wear clash jumpers against them and that's worked pretty well.

I'd like to see them have a full teal guernsey with a black and white V. I agree teal is an interesting colour. They should break it out for some preseason games to see how it goes.

It's predominantly white on the back and has white stripes instead of a yellow sash plus they'll be wearing white shorts. It won't clash. Best of a lot of bad outcomes.

Not anymore, maybe not ever. Try asking a Port supporter if they are two clubs. Or think about why they sign 'never tear us apart' before every game. They're one club now.

What I mean is it is not a jumper the Power have registered with AFL. Given the AFLs strict rules on these jumpers I see this as policy on the run.

They should do away with clash jumpers altogether [or insist that Collingwood have one]. We survived back in the days of B&W TV [when a mud-stained North jumper looked like a Collingwood one] by adopting black shorts vs white shorts depending who was playing away. Combine that with 'red socks' in our case and there is no way that our home jumper clashes with anyone else. By contrast, our away jumper and St Kilda's home jumper constitute a real clash when we play them.

The AFL simply makes the clash jumper rules up on the run. For some reason, we have to wear our white jumper against Brisbane, yet when they come to Melbourne to play us, they're free to wear their predominately red 'Fitzroy' jumper with red socks. It's bizarre. Add to that, the ridiculous situation when we play St.Kilda, when we adopt a jumper than worsens the clash, and the whole thing is a farce.

The situation is a total mess and needs to be fixed for 2015.

It hasn't been an issue in the past. Richmond didn't bring it up now. So why did the AFL make the decision? Terrible stuff.

Agree and I reckon if the AFL want to be serious about the clash it should mandate all clubs to wear a simple white jumper with their teams logo/initials on the front when they are the away team similar to how it used to be in the NBA for home teams

Imagine if we ever play finals again, we earn home ground advantage and they make us run out in the white jumper. I would be absolutely ropable.

I don't think Richmond are completely blameless here either. I am sick of these other Melbourne clubs who put out these pathetic clash jumpers that are far too close to their normal jumper that it is barely worth doing. If the AFL are going to enforce clash jumpers then do it properly.

It boggles my mind that a team can have two jumpers that clash with another team's jumper, it makes no sense. One dark, one light, problem solved.
