Old....you want white..... here ...i added some more :)

I'd even buy that !! :)

at least it looks like a bloody football jumper and not some cheerleaders blouse !!!

It looks as much like a football jumper as the white one does.

White is not a part of Melbourne's home jumper. Nor is it a part of Adelaide's, Brisbane's, Carlton's, Essendon's, Gold Coast's, GWS's, Hawthorn's or Richmond's. All of these clubs wear white jumpers except for Essendon and Richmond - Essendon has grey instead of white (same concept though, light v dark), whilst Richmond uses more yellow in their alternative because yellow isn't as big of an issue like red is.

Would you be less peeved if those two clubs wore white?

Regardless, the red jumper doesn't solve the AFL's problem (whether you agree with it or otherwise), which is that the red in our jumper is seen to clash with the red in Adelaide, Essendon and St Kilda's jumpers.

The club knows the supporters prefer red to white. When Schwab first showed up, they ran a survey and asked us what we wanted from our clash strip (I remember it providing options for the clash strip's colour, including teal and green). We clearly voted in favour of red, because they made the red jumper to go with the white jumper, so that we only had to wear white when the AFL made us, leaving us to wear red when we could. For whatever reason, we stopped wearing the red and moved solely to the white. But the club knows we want red. The fact they've moved to the white since then is an indication of how lowly this rates on the importance scale at Melbourne right now.

you know what would stop a clash with those teams?

the 1970s royal blue jumper.

So put white in our navy blue?

It's not our colour and it looked awful.

And I'm not concerned with all that other stuff you mentioned - hadn't even crossed my mind. Honestly.

Sometimes it's best to work out whether you're on the same page with whoever you might be debating with (and agree to disagree early when appropriate)

I don't mind giving ground usually but on some issues, we can all get a bit passionate - hey, at least we still all care!

Anyway ... I'm done, CBF! Got nuthin' more to add (unless someone quotes me again ^_^)

Not sure if you have the technology know how

I havent

Collingwood ( Eddie) had the brilliant answer that our jumper colour is black with a white stripe and our clash colour is white with a black stripe

How about ours being blue with a red V and clash Red with a blue V

would at least save the clash with the theme song.

Sorry to drag you back into the discussion, but you did start it with a (I thought reasonable) proposition.

I think royal blue would probably do a better job than red in terms of avoiding clashes. West Coast and Bulldogs might be issues though.

I'm not sure how it would be met with by supporters compared to the white jumper though. Some hate royal blue. It's also, just like white, not a colour of the MFC, so it doesn't solve that problem either.

Just because it's the same colours reversed doesn't mean it's the same.

If I had my way we wouldn't wear anything other than the current home jumper. I am looking for the most acceptable abomination. Reversing the colours is not going to be acceptable and it would look terrible. White looks terrible. The club use to wear it though, we should own that aspect of our history. We never wore a blue yolk with a red jumper.

Brad Miller tackled Matthew Whelan during a game against Carlton.

My dad struggles with Essendon games (when we are not in white) judging by his reaction to who has just won the footy...

further having seen BB,s work it can be done without the white. just need to analyse the "Clash" argument.

well the clash jumper with white was an even bigger clash with the aints last year than our home jumper!

given we were forced to wear our white jumper against essendope for years for our home games, i reckon they should be forced to wear their clash jumper against us for their home games.

i'm also buggared to see how essendope's grey is regarded as a light colour

I do agree that we are looking for the most acceptable abomination.

Dont know if the reversal looks terrible which was why I appealed for a look at it.

and to analyse how many times the actual clash jumper would be worn

Hoping that the theme song would be sung whichever jumper we wear and be recognisable as the team singing the song

We should be wearing our home jumper against St Kilda, I'm with you there. What I was saying was that a red jumper would clash more with St Kilda's red, and since the AFL thinks we clash with St Kilda, red can't work.

We've never worn a white jumper in a home game against Essendon.

Grey is clearly light when compared to black

I know I am in the minority here but I didn't mind the preseason/clash jersey from the early 2000s with the demon on the bottom right of the jersey. It was mostly red also.

essendope grey is clearly dark when compared to white

Nah, I'm not that computer savvy, 'dpositive'! ... 'beelzebub' might be able to do it.

In the end, this discussion is dependant on whether the AFL would have any wriggle room on their ruling - some seem to think they wouldn't move whilst others believe they might. Also, I'm a great believer in 'Majority rules' - a groundswell of support to ditch the white jumper would most probably be needed (amongst the membership) And then the club itself would have to weigh things up.

We know that the Tigers can use more yellow, the Bombers are using grey (and have sometimes used more red) and the Pies didn't have to change their basic design (when it seemed like at one stage that they might have to)

If you don't ask, you don't get.

The only acceptable way to sell a white guernsey to Melbourne fans is to pitch it as a heritage style Invincible Whites guernsey so at least there is some history with the jumper. Looking at our clash guernsey now I can see a Melbourne version of Don Scott ripping off the little blue strip of fabric and revealing "A SYDNEY GUERNSEY".

I also believe in majority rules but prefer when it is an informed decision with all details known

Your suggestion has certainly opened up the information. I had no idea about the "traditional" white

I just cant get over the contradiction with the song and the similarity of dogs saints and our jumpers on the telly.

When we start winning and are on the screen more this may be obvious to the AFL or maybe they are trying to homogenise all jumpers so whoever plays the black and whites the blues or the black and red's are seen as a familiar team to those supporters.

Think Ill give up now as Im begginning to frighten and confuse myself

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
