First International Rules Game this Sunday (20th) from 6:30 a.m.

Just a heads up for anyone who may be interested; the International Rules game will be live from Ireland on 7Mate starting at 6:30am on Sunday morning. With Aaron Davey installed as VC and Dom Barry playing his first game at a "senior" level, it at least means it holds some interest for us.

Please don't use this thread just to run the format down or to derail the thread with petty arguments about the worth of this game.

6:30am on Sunday morning? Fortunately I will be asleep.

Thanks for the info Hardtrack. I'm usually up around that time everyday. So I will definitely be watching it.

Cheers

Won't get a chance to watch it as I'm abroad but I'd be interested in hearing how the games go. Was travelling through Vietnam with an Irishman a few weeks ago and he used to play for County Mayo who were in the final, we found a pub playing it and both teams were full of massive units. Didn't remind me of the international rules teams they used to field, all these blokes looked like they spend hours in the gym and were bigger than a lot of AFL players.

If a lot of the bigger fellas get in the team it'd be interesting to see how they go against a much smaller than usual Aussie side.

There is something missing!

Just tweeted: "Breaking news: Australian International Rules players have been hauled before team management after a drunken night out."

Hope Dom Barry has managed to avoid coming under a few wayward influences.

Edit: maybe not as bad as it first seemed... subsequent tweets:

"Hotel staff were twice called to a room at the team's Dromoland Castle hotel after players had a big night out in Limmerick"

"No @AFL_Indigenous players will be sent home, but players reminded of their responsibilities. Game 2 in Dublin on Saturday"

Even if he was involved... they are overseas during their holidays, playing boring games of fake footy. Bit of a different situation to the regular season of real football.

I doubt it would be seen like that at all. Just because you and others don't like the game, doesn't mean that the players feel the same way and it certainly doesn't mean that the AFL won't see it as these players representing their code and their country overseas.

Our opinions of the game don't come into this at all. I would hope that bad influences don't have an affect on a young player like Dom Barry who has played no AFL at the top level and is probably a little star struck with the company he is keeping.

For the love of god, would someone just put a bullet in this ridiculous game.

I think they just might have.

Poor buggers can't even enjoy a few Beers in Ireland.

Just drop the whole concept. It's a dead horse.

Did someone say Limmerick?

There were once two sports merged into one

They thought it'd be a bit of fun

But the sport was pure junk

And the players all got drunk

Now hopefully this abomination is done.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
