TAC Cup Grand Final

So I just sat through most of the Eastern Rangers demolition job on the Dandenong Stingrays. Some quick notes as im on the mobile and typing is a pain.

TOM BOYD - he the number 1 pick by a mile. Given he looked like he was underdone he did a great job kicking 4 goals and having a hand in about 3 or 4 others. But I am leaving here with small doubts on his ability below the knees and his speed but they are very small knocks. At any team apart from gws he would be given vfl time but he can play from rd1 if need be.

MITCH HONEYCHURCH - really like this kid, takes the game on and kick goals but unfortunately I dont think he is what we need.

BILLY HARTUNG - one of the stingrays best today with 3 goals and a few nice centre breaks. If we had a midfield that could win more of the ball then he would be an ideal pick up with speed, a nice kick but would need a season to put on a couple of kgs.

ZAC JONES - its quite hard not to sound biased towards chunks little bro but he is what we need. Today I saw him in every part of the ground and he really looked best in the guts. Strong hips that break tackles, decent kick but needs some work, love it in the pack but the part that really impressed me was his willingness to spread. Although he needs to work on his tank like 75% of the tac cup kids, after his last month he would be firming for a top 30 pick now.

Will be an interesting draft for us, if we managed to get an end of 1st round priority pick dont be surprised if we go for guys like Lloyd Perris, Zac Jones, James Tsitas and Patrick Cripps with that pick and our 2nd and 3rd round picks.

Anyhow, now to watch the vfl.

Thanks for the info.

Apparently one of Boyd's strengths is his speed. He tested under 3 seconds for 20 metres, which is outrageous for someone his size. But, as you say, he's very underdone.

i've been waiting for a report from someone who was there, so thanks.

given it was such a demolition job, was jones moved into the midfield or did he play mostly across half-back?

i see cavarra had 30 including 5 i50s and 8 i50s, was he as good as that sounds on paper?

DA, Jones was moved around a fair bit and ended up playing a lot on the Wing & HFF in the 2nd half.

He really looked good in the centre but i think that the coach may have been protecting a few players in the 2nd half so they dont carry injury into the combine (Jones and Hartung).

I had to look up a few numbers after the game to get names and Cavarra's was the first i looked up.

While nothing he did stood out as exceptional, he just got to everything and didnt waste it when he had it.

He also seemed to be the outlet when the Rangers won the ball in a contest.

Not really sure what stats there are on the game but would be interested to see how many "handball receives" he had i counted about 8 in a quarter.

He reminds me a bit of Hrovat (probably more due to size as he isnt as physical) but yes for once the stats dont lie, he was fantastic.

Thanks for the info.

Yeh I have read that as well which is why i was surprised that he looked a little slow but he admitted in the paper that he pretty much blew up at quarter time so i guess that explains it.

There were a couple of other standouts as well:

Christian Petracca - Just seems to find the ball and i dont remember him making a mistake. Would be worth a look with a 3rd round pick.

Jordan Walker - really noticed him, he would hunt the ball and seemed to use it well.

I was talking with a recruiter who was sitting next to me and he said that as the game was such a blowout it would be hard to take a lot from it.

He did mention after the game that he thought Cavarra was very stiff not to get to the combine but he felt he would probably be picked up on the rookie list somewhere.

Hopefully it is us as i think he would be a good pick up.

Not sure if anyone has seen Knightmares latest Phantom Draft over on BF but I would be very pleased if we ended up with the guys he has picked to fall to us.

Pick 2 - James Aish

Pick 20 - Zac Jones

Pick 36 - James Tsitas

I really rate Tsitas and from what i have seen of him, he is what we need.

Hard as nail, can run all day, monster of physical pressure with his only big knock being his kicking efficiency.

Yes, very much like Zac Jones. Hopefully we can get him at Pick 20. But of course will we have that pick at all after all the other players we are supposed to be getting?

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
