Should we pick up Tom Boyd if we get pick 1 as PP (or he is still there at 2)?

Ablett, Judd, Hodge, Barlow, Pendlebury, etc... we need one of this calibre and we'll only unearth and develop one via a high pick (trade for or develop).

The MFC needs a star mid-fielder or three... all efforts should be directed to acquiring these players because we're going nowhere till we have them.

Stockpiling tall forwards cause we can, is daft.

Adam, I'm equally as bewildered that you are thinking along those lines when you agree wholeheartedly that we have no midfield depth.

How can we expect to breed a 'team first' philosophy when we go out and draft against our needs?

Well, that's it, mate. It comes down to our drafting philosophy. If I was one of our recruiters, I'd always go best available.

If Boyd is as good as some are suggesting I'd take him. If we end up with too many good KPPs - and that's a big if - then we could trade one out. Trade value for good KPPs is very high.

You'd want mids with the other picks though...

Would want an absolute A grade midfielder in exchange. Sloan, Murphy ,(Nths ) Swallow, Cotchin ( no not Martin tks) would do it for me. No interest at all in B graders or multitudes of them. Who knows what Essendon's position might be though and of course minor issue is gaining the pick in the first place. If we get it I hope we trade as tough as nails as it would be a nice position to be in.

3 of the 4 you named are captains of their clubs. Why bother discussing things that will never happen? Waste of time.

Yep otherwise you end up with a Molan, Smith, Cook or a Tambling instead of Franklin.

There is no chance of this happening... they interviewed Vlad on SEN this morning and one of the things they were discussing was GWS and growth of the club and all the positives that lay ahead despite a terrible 2013. One comment that caught my attention was "They have Tom Boyd coming to the club".

I don't know if anyone can get transcripts from SEN, but that is pretty much word-for-word what he said. I've also heard from a decent source that GWS have told Boyd to shut up shop for this season and make sure he is right for pre-season, hence the reason he hasn't been playing for the Eastern Ranges. Only way I can see him playing again this season is if they know Geelong off this week and make the TAC Cup grand final.

Time to look elsewhere lads.

Well get PP after our first pick (i.e. pick 3).

Typical AFL style compromise.

And not a bad result for us.

What about midround after after first round picks?

9 and 17?

That would be a compromise.

We can do some damage in October with 2, 9, 17, 18, 19 (Sylvia Comp), Blease, Jamar, et al.

.... what if we got Boyd, who'd be ready to go for the 2015 season.... & Mitch Clark went well thruout the 2014 season, but he was Open to return home to Perth... & Andrew Gaff was going well & was interested in returning to Melbourne ???

In the meantime this 2013 trading season, we picked up SThompson (free agent),, & Brad Sewell/Shuey, via a trade ?

entering 2015 season, we could potentially have a lineup including:- Hogan, Boyd, Dawes, Howe, Watts, Fitz, Gawn,,,,, Jones, Trengove, Viney, Sewell/Shuey, Grimes, Toumpas, Gaff, Garland, Frawley, etc...

a paired Tall KP forwardline with class around, a midfield with class & hard running, & an experienced defence...

If you shoot for the stars, you might just get there. If you shoot to be average you are very likely to get there. Carlton secure Judd, Collingwood secure Ball, Swans secure Tippet and we secured Clark. A lot of things are possible if you have a crack. Might be a waste of time for you, maybe not for others.

All those players had already decided to leave their respective clubs. None of the ones you named are going anywhere, 3 are captains and pretty certain they are all under contract. It's stupid and a waste of time to discuss it.

We might get pick 9 OR 18 (GWS have CP pick 10 as well) but no way they are going to give us both, what are you smoking?

Edit: and BTW a compromise suggests we are holding something to bargain with - we have nothing and are wholly reliant on the Commission to assess whether we should get one or not. They have no need or desire to compromise with us.

Thanks, Dr.

Always a pleasure.

And BTW, the compromise would be amongst the Comission that wants to see a more even competition but also doesn't want to hear mean words from Eddie et al in the papers.

I actually agree with what Adrian Anderson says about getting the pillars right. Which i think we have. We've got an actual coach now. We will get more out of this current squad now i assure you.

I think Pick 9 would be good for everyone as a priority, it's very tradeable, probably gets us Taylor Adams

it goes straight back into the mix,

doesn't effect any non finals teams.

I think that's a good result. Gives us some tools to get involved in trades for more mature players, but still maintain a decent influx of young talent through the draft.

Opposition teams shouldn't complain as much as if we were to get pick 1.

Fair compromise.
