The more I think about it, Brian Wilson and Shane Woewodin need more respect from Dees fans.

Granted - Brian Wilson could be a sook and a [censored] at times - but his best was outstanding and he lasted for a fair while in a good side.

Woewodin was very good (B++)for a few years and had that blinder in 2000. There were no presses or "structuring up" like there is today and in that environment he was a reason to go and watch the footy. I still can't believe we let him go.

And while I am at it, if our backline was not as solid as it seems now, I would take Brett Lovett also. Impossible to tackle, hard as nails, a bit slow but could run all day, heart of a lion, and good old fashioned aggression. And a curly mullett. What more could you want?

No mention of Jim Stynes? I would have thought that a player with a tank the size of what Jim had would thrive in the modern game as much as he did back in the 90's.

Stynes > Jamar+Spencer+Gawn

Jim for mine with Garry not far behind.

Jimma yeah, had a massive tank!hard to beat in his prime & a true legend...MFC's best story. And one of MFC's best ever ruckmen!

Would also have Jeff White. Took some monster hangers and created genuine excitement at MFC also.

Flower sits comfortably in the Ablett Jnr, Judd, Pendlebury, Watson, Swan, Mitchell, Hayes, Cotchin spectrum - Clark and Frawley are as good as any we've had recently in their respective areas. It's Flower, Flower and then Flower.

Barassi first as he didn't accept losing

Flower second as the only time he played finals he was terrific

Schwarz fit and firing (not the Ox) third as he was probably the best athlete we ever had

Fred Fanning never saw him but he holds so many VFL AFL records he must have been something

Jeff White

Go and have a look at the 98 finals series for an example of a Demon destroying opposition when it matters most.

Was a real handful and set up our game beautifully...but the new ruck rules stopping his run and jump killed him and us, just about cost us a legit shot at the flag.

Good point. Can we bring the old ruck rules with him?

FFS...did none of you rabbits read the first post? 1990's and 2000's only. Saw Barassi and Flower play...sensational...unfortunately not eligible. Try again.

I'm one of those rabbits I'm afraid. This means I delete the great Ron but leave in the Ox and Stephen Tingay.

I would love Woey back because well he was my idol haha but other than that I would like Jeffrey Farmer running around crumbing in our forward line... Clark and Dawes (eventually Hogan) if not marking the ball bringing it to ground and Farmer there to swoop.

The Wizard circa 2000.That'd be the kicking or creation of seven goals we need! We also need leadership so Garry Lyon or Todd Viney.Yze circa 2002 would be useful as well!.

I also watched the final quarter of the opening game of 2003 in the Fox 30 Minute Thriller series and it really brought home how the wasted opportunity of that era. The team we had assembled at that time was of a reasonable level of strength that could have achieved so much more if only our recruiting from that time would have produced a few star players. Unfortunately, it didn't and the team imploded well before the end of the decade.

The player I would nominate from that game would be a youngish Matthew Whelan because he would have fitted perfectly into the style that Mark Neeld is trying to instil - a player who goes hard at the ball, won't shirk an issue and gives everything for the team. You can never have enough of that type of player.

Needless to say, if I had to go outside the parameters of the OP, Ron Barassi would be my choice.

If I'm looking at the 90's I would be inclined to go for Stephen Tingay. I remember him in his first game as a skinny kid from Shepparton but he worked hard and built up that body to a point where he looked a bit like Rambo. Some of our kids today need to do the same so he would provide a great example.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
