I would have thought that the as the governing body it would be right and proper the board be given a please explain. As you have pointed out on numerous occasions the buck stops with them.

It's the first time I've seen them mentioned. In any well run organization they would have plausible deniability, that would be good management and governance. I wonder if they do although I think I know the answer.

Personally I think Jimmy will be doing a lot of good for the club even as we speak.

Doesnt change one thing.

Oh yes it does. Grimshaw, Jalland, Howcroft and others hold very senior business positions. With plausible deniability they could avoid involvement and they would make decisions based on what's best for the club. If their reputations are on the line that objective will be seriously muddied.

It's a scattergun approach. See who flinches. I suspect the club will state it's position tomorrow and that no one flinched !

You should think things through on their merits and not based on your desire to disagree with all I say for the purpose of ridicule.

The only person you're making look silly is yourself. It changes the dynamic whether you like it or not and raises the stakes for all concerned.

I like 2014, as long as it's after the end of November...

take it to court & stretch it out, let it die down to barely a simmer.

you really think it would die down?

every article about mfc in the press would have some little snide remark tucked in somewhere

and tanking threads here would run into the 100's of pages

sponsorship and membership numbers would be affected

arguments on governance and executives would rage

none of the above would necessarily be fair but still inevitable

NO, get it over quickly (edit: without capitulating that is)

Interesting to see the Board mentioned as being one of the four parties with a "please explain". That raises the stakes significantly and changes the dynamics.

Of course it might not be right. Can't imagine the AFL wanting to pizz on a statue.

I think you might be reading to much into the word "board" used in the article.

What I find to be of significance is the bringing in of potential draft tampering charges because these lay the AFL open to the question of why it hasn't already acted against Richmond and Terry Wallace, Carlton and Brett Ratten and half a dozen others.

There might have been some difficulty with bringing tanking allegations against the other clubs but now, when we have an AFL coach admitting he did nothing to win a game lest it deprived his club of a draft pick, that's a direct admission. One that hasn't been investigated. The pizzing will end up splashing all over the two most senior people at the AFL. I can't believe they really want that?

itbchanges nothing. You may wish to introduce a Straw element. By all means . It's hollow.

The tactic to date has been to to throw mud in as many directions and at all and sundry in the hope something comes of it.

Nothing's changed.

All the Afl is attempting is to raise the ante in its game of bluff.

If they had the cards they would have played this very differently.

They were hoping on the River ,but in reality their bluff is about to be called.

I agree WJ Bring it on. The more question marks the more involved it all becomes. The deeper hole the AFL digs.

Carltank & Ninthmond did far more blatant tampering than the MFC.

I want to know more about Bailey's specific charge.

That is the Big card in the deck.

Who has released the press conference is happening tomorrow morning? i have checked the Age, HS, Afl.com.au, fox sports?!?

In fact this is a direct admission of guilt to precisely the charges purported to be levelled against Bailey. Draft tampering & not coaching to the best of your ability.

And this commission expects to be taken seriously.

They are becoming more of a joke with every day that passes.

The board has a please explain? That's what Fan got from today's news?!

The whole club, and a nervous former coach, is being hunted.

Some on here need to get over the individuals they usually see through this lens:

lens5334642_1245098965target-200.jpg

There will be no escape for the club unless the individuals escape with us.

You want to see the end of these individuals at the club?

Pick another time because I think we are headed to war and the generals will be Schwab, Connolly, McLardy and the board in general.

Their mission is to lead us through this unscathed.

And, yes, it will mean they are unscathed too.

GET. OVER. IT.

WYL, we all experienced and knew what was taking place in 2009, and it created a lot of conflicting emotions for all involved.

Now these other clubs are not innocent, and I suspect if you looked at West Coast and their ability to secure a priority pick ... and as people have mentioned the Freo game against the Hawks is equally questionable in terms of actively doing your best to win a game of football.

But to say they are more guilty then us... thats a little bit of a stretch.

Released on SEN......Presser with Neil Craig......

Released on SEN......Presser with Neil Craig......

Neil Craig is an odd choice to be fronting the media in regards to this.... are we sure the presser is about the tanking allegations?

Have another look at the Kruezer Cup game and then read Wallace talking about securing Cotchin. It's all there.

As for the Eagles. Have a listen to the Lynard Skynard track "The Needle & The Spoon"

I am not exonerating the MFC at all, but i will always believe these other 3 clubs were far better tankers than us.

Imagine if Wilson had written about Wallace's admissions in that first article?

Richmond would be completely screwed.

The Coach HAS admitted it.

Released on SEN......Presser with Neil Craig......

Might be something entirely different lol

You would expect McLardy to front if it were a declaration of war.

Odd times.

I guess the simple fact that they aren't being investigated suggests that they are better examples of tanking, but claiming that they are more guilty is different again, and I don't agree with that..

Don may already have moved to the "War Room" with Dr. Strangelove to plan strategic moves.

Neil Craig will be fine. He has done more pressers than Mclardy.

I didn't see the board mentioned in wither the Hun or age article. Did i miss it?

As you note they would have plausible deniability, though if we have done nothing wrong there is nothing to deny. None the less as the governing body (and as the group that the CEO reports to) it would be standard practice for them to respond to any accusations related to management practices i would have thought.

i didn't say they were more guilty. One is either guilty or not.

I said Carlton & Ninthmond were far more blatant

Maybe their keeping the big guns for later......Neil Craig cannot answer questions as he was not there in 09...So he makes a statement about what we may do and then quickly leaves.....as I said Maybe???????

The biggest problem with this whole farce is that the draft & priority pick systems have given a new perspective to list management.

Worth remembering that list management existed in the same form before there was a priority pick system or even a draft.

All club with no chance of playing finals sent players for surgery, played young players & experimented with positions.

And it was accepted behaviour then even if the motivation was different.

The motivation was created by the AFL.

Maybe their keeping the big guns for later......Neil Craig cannot answer questions as he was not there in 09...So he makes a statement about what we may do and then quickly leaves.....as I said Maybe???????

Still, in many respects the club has played this game well and part of such has been to not be predictable. This too would be in that mould..

I suppose currently we're at a point where we (club) have an idea of where the League is placed and its intents. They can't be so sure of us.

They consider they have their finger on the trigger, but we have the detonator in ours. They might go bang but we can go BOOM !!

They might expect X , we do Y.

That's how it all seems. The scriptwriters are certainly kept busy.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
