Operation Buddy

Well I dont know about anybody else but I think we should be targeting Buddy. He is out of contract at the end of next year and will be a free agent, we will have ample room in the cap to make him an offer to good to refuse and I think we should do it. Lets not waste our time with Dawes or Pedersen lets get a superstar lets get Buddy.

That will never happen.

Would Bud suit Neeldys game plan? Would he fit in with our culture, and be under our cap?

Love the optimism but no chance!!!

Hawthorn would sell every player on their list to keep him...

Why on earth would he leave on of the most successful clubs in the competition (where you can be sure he is well looked after already) for our crap heap, even if we can offer more money?

True the optimism is admirable but we are going after players like Pedersen and Dawes because they are realistic. Buddy isn't mate.

Buddy IS a game plan. Unfortunately, not gonna happen.

Getting Wellingham would be a good start.

Its called money the same reason Ablett, Scully, Ward and Clark ended up where they did. The club keeps raiding its wealthy members to build a war chest and I think its time the club used it.

Seriously, trout, Franklin would never, never, leave Hawthorn for any coin. He strikes me as a the kind of bloke who's happy at the Hawks, loves the profile and is looking at a Brownlow and another premiership over the next 3 - 4 years.

No problem putting the feelers out. Show Franklin some $$$. Let him know the MFC is serious.

Make Hawthorn pay more...it all helps us claw our way up the list.

Doubt we would get Duddy, but we may get a different player who the Hawks can no longer afford.

Footy has changed as of yesterday.

I dont want come across rude, but its clearly not completely about money.

Lynch knocked back 360k from melb to go to the pies for 280k. thats a significant difference in cash'e.

yes we got clark, this still amazes me to be honest.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with clark, just surprised.

My point being if our culture and cash can't lure lynch, then how do we get a superstar like buddy?

You can bet he's already on a fair amount of coin there, and the couple of hundred thousand more we can offer won't make much difference when he's weighing up the other factors like success, playing with mates, coaching staff and so on. It won't happen.

No it won't happen yet. But we have to keep shopping until it does.

If we don't the club won't survive 10 years more.

Source for those offers? I was informed today that the filth trumped our offer by $25k pa. My source is a recruiter from another club that were interested in him.

i would hope you are right. Our $$$ are good & solid.

This F/A was never going to be easy..we are out there pushing. Good.

Keep it up Demons.

I would be disgusted if the club just put this in the 'no chance' basket. We have this war chest that they keep crapping on about and it will only get bigger after more front loaded contracts after missing out on everyone decent this year, so why wouldn't we put a huge offer to him. Of course it is unlikely, but is it any more unlikely than Gary Ablett leaving Geelong and missing a flag to go GC for a [censored] load of money. Not sure why everyone feels the need to shoot down the OP, as even though it is highly unlikely, you could almost guarantee there will be 17 clubs sitting around the round table figuring out if they can get him to their club.

Put an offer to him, 99.9% chance it gets turned down and nothing is lost other than the ink and piece of paper that was used to print it, 0.1% chance he decides to grab the cash and we seal the biggest coup possible.

there is always a chance but as FD said it is the slimmest! I really can't see buddy leaving hawthorn for anything as he would no doubt already be on a very healthy deal atm and he has great success ahead of him at the hawks. Money is always a factor as to why someone may leave a club but many times it would not always be the only draw card. Buddy would be a super get if we were to get him, one of the best in history, but very unlikely to happen. Wouldn't hurt to chase him next year though as we would have nothing to lose :)

I may be out dated, those were the figures i heard on SEN and through a colleague mon or tues. Perhaps pies bumped it up.

how can collingwood fit all of these players in their salary cap?

perhaps we should be looking at some of there other quality players to poach.

They can't all be on awesome cash... Which by the sounds of things we have

Buddy wants to finish his career with the Demons.

He definitely will not finish with the Hawks.

Take it as gospel. The club is aware of this.

Keep it quiet. I may have to delete this post very soon.

Well I'll just quote you then so your post will live in the Internet for all eternity :P

Hope you are right. But my spidey senses tell me you are full of crap.

Because a jouno says it doesn't make it right. According to the club we made no offer.

Those who think that there's no possibility of snagging Buddy need to think again.

Anyone watched one of ESPN's "30 for 30" documentaries about Wayne Gretzky - the greatest ever ice hockey player?

The LA Kings owner jokingly discussed a trade with the Edmonton Oilers (Gretzky's team) owner at a dinner party. They laughed it off at the time, but a few months, $15 million, 4 draft picks and a couple player later he was in an LA guernsey.

Point is, even for a guy like Buddy who is the heart and soul of Hawthorn - a trade is possible.

5mill over 5 years. Make a play, see what happens.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
