What does Mitch Morton's improvement say?

Featured Replies

I suspect it says a lot about how Sydney develop players. Of real interest to me was Morton's little interview where he said that his teammates did't trust him. I seem to recal the same being said of Cale.

It probably means that some players take much longer than others to realise they have to work hard to succeed, even if it is only briefly. Mortons 3rd club and he wasnt even as influential as Ted Hopkins really. Remember him before he became a stupid irrelevant stats man ? Swans will probably delist Morton or look for a trade

He laid more tackles in the 2 finals than he did in his entire career at richmond

Sydney don't give games away to players, Morton kicked 70 odd goals in the reserves, as stated it took a lot of time for him to get the trust of the players. But lets also be clear, Morton came into the side when McGlynn got injured, but he had form behind him, and to his credit was not a weakness in the games that he played.

Its all about making the most of your opportunities, and he has done that.

HTF did Ted Hopkins make it in to this thread?

I'm sure Ted and other Carlton players and supporters remember 1970 rather fondly. Just like Morton, his teammates and Swans supporters will in 40 years from now.

No, he got a game because McGlynn was injured and couldn't play.

...and made the most of it!

And to answer he original question what does it show: that he has some G&D and courage, as well as natural skills / talent.

People saying that he "made the most of it" are missing the point of what others are saying.

Question: Did anyone here watch any of Morton's games recently and honestly think to themselves "wow, he wouldn't have done [insert something he did here] at W.C. or Richmond" or anything along these lines?

I'm shocked that people don't really see this for what it was; a player being in the right place at the right time. He played alright because, well, he's an alright player.

no.

You are not giving him credit for doing those same things during a finals series, where the pressure ramps up each week...his contributions remained dam solid.

He is better than alright.

A limited footballer that who is dangerous around goal when allowed to get on to his right foot.

And a footballer that like all footballers is capable of influencing games through tackling.

Now a premiership player, and one who performed under pressure by playing to his strengths.

Ben McGlynn got injured and they replaced him with a player who was in form in the ressies, lucky.....took the chance when it arose....nothing more

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.
