Because the AFL says so and they have all the power and the MFC bugger all.

Our old clash strip was red, so don't really understand why that changed

Not a pain at all mate, I know that's why we get the shaft most of the time!

Still, I think that Port and Freo have shown that a more traditional and conservative jumper is more popular than a "modern" one.

I agree stuie but I don't see it happenning.

I would love us to get the traditional jumper right before we worry about the away strip.

How hard is it to get red and blue correct, we have had so many shades of red!

The current maroon annoys me way more than the white away strip.

I still wear my 2010 scarf because the recent red colours have been terrible.

Enough of my rant.

Essendon maybe and even then if teams are wearing different shorts it shouldn't be an issue. It is not as if they play on quagmire grounds of the 70's these days. I don't get why the AFL insists on the alternate jumper every other week. It should only be worn as a last resort. We are the 'red and the blue' not white or silver or god forbid (with apologies to the OP) green

Agreed, how is it that we clash with Port or Fremantle? Essendon and st Kilda there is a slight clash (with the saints it kind of exists with our alt strip anyway), I can see why they make us wear it v Doggies and Lions. All other teams I don't know why.

Was actually thinking something along the lines of the OP just the other day (after seeing Man City's brilliant Champions League away strip). We're the red and the blue, of course we are, we always will be, but why are we so inflexible when it comes to clash jumpers? AFL fans are (to the best of my knowledge) the only sport fans in the world who demand the same colours in the alternate uniform, negating the whole purpose of the alternate uniform anyway. If we clash with other teams that have red and blue, then obviously the sensible thing to do is have an alternate strip that's completely and utterly different. Our away game versus the Saints this year was a joke: we wore an 'away' jumper that accentuated the clash, rather than negating it.

I'd be happy for the Dees to run out in green and white the three or four times a year we have to change. And if we make that choice and then stick with it, it'll come to take on its own kind of tradition. I kinda like the idea of having this conversation sometime in the 2050's:

"Granpa, why do we wear green in our away jumper?"

"Well, Timmy, there was an Irishman named Jim Stynes ..."

I think the away strip is much worse against the Saints.

We end up with Red, white and Navy blue vs Red white and Black

here's a good idea

instead of the white lets use banana yellow....... red, blue, banana...............solved

Edited for grammar. It's and its. Gets me every time.

Got to say bananas I am stuggling to find a reason to disagree.

An Irish clash strip would be ok with me.

At least it would have strong meaning.

That supporting Melbourne makes you turn to the drink or you need to be drunk to watch them?

Both

?? It would honour Big Jimma actually.

As a bit of an aside but on the general topic: WTH does Adelaide need to wear a clash jumper v Hawthorn?

Surely even someone as narrow minded as Dumbitriou could think there was a clash there?

And next week whoever wins today, surely both sides can wear their own jumpers.

I would be enormously [censored] off if we were, sorry when we do, win a GF not wearing the mighty red &blue.

Could not tolerate a some added white?

Come on surely winning is more important?

looks better than what we currently wear. Maybe with the MFC Logo enlarged.

i'd like to see what it looks like reversed ie all green with white yoke

I am clearly not saying that I wouldn't take a flag - I would just love to see it again with the real jumper.

Apparently the AFL is now mandating that supporters flags and bunting from 2013 onwards, '...reasonably matches the club's designated away strip". Madness.

That is a joke, yeah? Surely.

I'm for us going to the Jimmy jumper, reckon its something that would set us a part and will leave an onfield connection to Jim. Will kinda defeat the "red and blue" part of our song, but hey Liverpool are known as "the Reds" and they've played in black, white, yellow, grey etc. Maybe put the MFC logo in green on the front (not our shield, just the M F C thing).

Sorry lads Im Irish and love Jimmy and his memory, but he would be the first to acknowledge we are red and blue.

So for me we go back to red jumpers as an alternate or the old royal blue as our alternate

Looked like three teams playing today: hawthorn Adelaide clash and Adelaide supporters

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
