Goddard Gone..

Featured Replies

Apparently, as mentioned on the radio today..

Brendan Goddard has been made an offer 'to good to refuse,' to leave the saints..

Can anyone add to this?

Is this a good move if it was us?

EDIT: here's a link to that radio segment in question.. Thanks Oucher..

I haven't seen much of him this year, and have heard he's gone backwards, but if we've got the cash I'd love to have him at the Dees.

It is believed that he is heading to Lyonland--Fremantle.

without any basis whatsoever to beleive this it would make sense.

i rate Goddard. Would be an ideal pickup....*sigh*

GWS and Fremantle tabled $1 million offers to Goddard and they were knocked back.

The captaincy will be given to him as a reward for loyalty and Riewoldt is happy to step aside.

Money isn't the big drawcard here. Whilst a glorious seven-figure sum from the aforementioned clubs would "set him up for life", fact is he plays off 1 on the golf course. That'll look after him post-footy.

I'd give him $3 - $3.5 over 4 yrs, imagine the benefits the midfield (and the watts' an tommy macs) would get from him..

this is what the War Chest is for!

Goddard has lost his edge at 28. Gets lots of the ball but has less impact than he used to. Picking up possessions on his terms and playing easy football. Idont want him but he would fit into the senior player culture at MFC very well though.

We already have a Goddard...his name is Jack Watts!

Very much agree. Would prefer Lenny Hayes if he was available, even to get a season or two out of him in his twighlight years.

Give me Lenny Hayes going at half rat power over Goddard anyday.

Goddard is a no for me. I don't want to pay that much for a floating half back. Key position players are a lot harder to find and therefore are more expensive. I don't think a older version of watts is worth squillions.

I'm a golf pro and I can guarantee a 1 handicapper isn't going to win millions playing on the tour... He should take what he can get in his last years playing footy! Hope it's with the dees...

At his age, only a club who reckon they have a premiership window opening would want him for big bucks. Not us. Fremantle would be in the picture.

Think the saints have been down this year, not Goddard in particular..

Only just turned 27 y.o.. Rhino..

Would take the opponents best mid at the centre bounce.. (where i would play him)

-30 touches 10 marks against the cats best, last round..

I would prefer Dayne Beams or Harley Bennell in a heartbeat, but will Goddard be the best available mid/utility/player this year?? ..still well worthy of a Dees jumper..

Don't want him, he seriously looks like he's lost his edge. I have watched him this year, and if he doesn't want to be there, why hasn't Watters relegated him. Let's leave this please...., and at that money IMO the war chest would seriously be wasted

Or a club that have big bucks and can't afford to go through another year getting belted by 100+ points every other week when they're trying to attract supporters to a new market.

I don't completely disagree with your premise, but it's pretty optimistic for a team that is going to miss the finals (as they have done for 15 of their 18 seasons) like Freo to think they are entering their premiership window.

Our ineptidude has already been confirmed. Getting him would be rubbing it in. I would prefer Cloke any day over Goddard.

I believe they have a ticket on themselves. And they look pretty good this season with Lyon coaching. Better than for a hell of a long time.

He will be 28 at his new club.

I fear he has lost the intensity in a game. His 30 possessions these days just dont hurt the opposition. He is good enough to accumulate possessions but does not have the hunger he once.

MFC is 5 years off being a serious challenger (if at all), he would not both to get smacked about protect a number of kids. He would be better off at Freo.

Harley Bennell......now you are talking!!!

Harley benell last year [censored]

harley benell this year exceptional

the difference? imo its because he moved in with k hunt

say what you will about hunts footy ability he is a proven sporting warrior

while it may be a [censored] sport have a look at the way he would return kicks from full back as a bronco as a moroon and as a kangaroo...100miles an hour directly at the opposition daring them to get in his wsy. the 120kg props dont have the same intensity and will often slow their run before the line

hunt is seriously dedicated to his profession and this is the type we should be looking for through FA

The club is short of senior leaders and need to be taught off field as much as on and for that reason i am hoping the club in question is melbourne.

Buy cloke we get goals for 5 years from 1player

get a goddard, foley or hayes and they will teach the kids ti become teachers and success will breed success

Jones, Viney, trenners on the inside,

Goddard, grimes, blease on the outside..

Another dimension and a big difference..

EDIT: and would probably mean we could cut the Cale Morton umbilical cord

Makes a bit of sense. Bit of money out West and they had money tucked away for Mitch Clark, but didn't get the deal done. Had money tucked away for Travis Cloke, but they're unlikely to get the deal done.

They clearly want a big signing to state their intent and lift them up a cog. Ross knows what BJ can do (still don't know what he sees in Dawson though), and Freo see a window of opportunity while they still have Pavlich and Sandilands somewhere near their peaks.

Reckon you're on to something.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
