Melbourne gets better of Tom Scully trade

Demons get the better of the Scully trade

I can't believe there is a negative article about GWS.....i was sure the sun shone from their........

Now another reason for Sheedy to hate us, and want us to pay by making a bid for Viney...

Whilst in principal id agree wholeheartedly with the sentiments of the article I am always reminded of the notion that nothig is done, til its done. So in that frame of thought we will have tosee not only who we get as a result of the compo picks but how they pan out. So we might not know for some years as to who really got the better of the deal.

I do agree however with the notion that ol Voldmort was overhyped and over rated...Now thankfully hes over paid and over there !!

How do we know if we are better off, when we havnt even exercised our yearly right to stuff early draft picks yet?

We might end up with another two scullys

Looking forward to seeing Pick 4.

Hopefully will be fair compensation.

Yes, but, stay with me here - we might pick up a player that in 6 years time is a star of the comp...

watching the pressure mount, as the media cretins start to pile on more and more '6 million dollar man anit worth a dime' type articles is going to be a joy.

"The Dees will land picks No.4 and No.13 as part of the Scully compensation, two premium young players in a "super draft"."

horrible 'journalism' stating that as as some kind of fact. I asume he means IF we finish 14th and there are no other priority picks? What about the other pick?

It's in the Courier Mail. Quince-landers will do anything they can to knock Walers.

No one in their right mind would trade pick 1 for pick 4 and 13.

Past pick 4s have included Morton, Fiora, Ray. Past pick 13s have included Matthew Bate, Tom Lynch (x-Stkilda), Mitch Brown (geelong nothing player).

Pick 1 is a lock great player (or should be at least).

Scully will be a star. 100%. We'll have to get really lucky with pick 4 and pick 13. Let's hope we do. but people are kidding themselves if they think we did better off.

There is a reason we declined pick 5 and pick 9 for pick 2 that year.

On reflection, Jay Clark is a Victorian, so it's probably in the Herald Sun, too.

Im happy to take viney as our first rounder, he will be a top 5 pick anyways, and we get who we would have gotten at 3 at 4. Then we get one at 12 or wherever. Eff GWS and scully he can take his money, hes going to knee'd it ;)

I didnt think Billy boy stretch was available to be drafted this year? Oh well, i guess I am wrong again.

Its a HS article....but i posted another link because not everyone has paid for the carp that is the new HS.

How can any of this be written with still 11 games of the season to go??

Another fish and chip wrapper.

Syndicated across News Ltd....

Can't stand the talk that we got an 'overs' deal, as well the comparison to Ablett. We invested heavily in the draft and got dragged through the mud for a year by this saga...Also, bringing Scully's performance now into the argument is irrelevent. When he reaches his early 20s and he starts to fire, that's what Melbourne will be missing, not what he's producing now.

That's disingenuous. Past pick 13s have also included Jack Reiwoldt. You can get a Lance Franklin with #5 and a Joel Selwood with #7.

The Lions and Power would have to implode from here for us to be anything other than 3rd last, they are 4 wins already.

It may not be disingenous maurie. he may actually have no idea what he is talking about.

Anyway, i actually agree with the premise that we were more likely to do better with pick 1, than 4 and 13, or whatever. I have always believed that is the compensation we should have received.

I have always believed that is the compensation we should have received.

Agreed.

But our awfulness this year will ensure that we get as good a compensation package as possible.

i still reckon we will win another 7 at least

Whats more important to me is that someone smacks Tom Scully.

Theres no school like the old school.

I don't know about that...

3 wins are a given. But NM and Freo are at that awful place, Adel and St K should beat us at the G, Richmond will think they should beat us at the G, and we would need to play well to beat the Lions and Freo away...

I can see 5 as a possibility, I guess...

I take from the article that Cam Schwab did some canny work behind the scenes to manoeuvre us into a position to claim 2 compo picks, when it could so easily have been one like the poor old Dogs got.

Some smart politics played there.

my feeling is that the AFL were fully aware of how badly we had been shafted in the whole ordeal, and did just what they should have, compensated us

ill take a gram of whatever your smoking/sniffing/injecting

yeah do that then actually look at the fixture

i really don't know why everyone is so glum at the moment. After the Sydney game I was as low as anyone, but in the last 3 weeks:

-have played 3 good/very good sides

-in the 12 quarters played we have performed well in 9 of them and miserably in 3 (which is better than 0-12!)

-have shown the courage, passion and desire that has been lacking until now

given our incredibly soft draw for the remainder I really see no reason at all why we won't smash all the bottom-sides and really take it up to some of the better sides, hopefully pinching a couple of them. I mean FFS we had the flag favourites totally on the ropes for about 45-50 minutes last week, we looked fantastic.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
