I would take back wona before him

Heard a rumor that Carlton are in to Watts big time? maybe a few Carlton trolls are trying to make it happen......

Also heard that Ratten will be finished at Carlton this year and that they have already sign Mick Malthouse?

I am not convinced he will make it but the point I am making is the two i mentioned werent tracking any better at the same age.

Now Col Sylvia - has had 8 preseasons to show the talent he has ( I believe he has the talent to be top 20 in the AFL) but has delivered bubka's - pot away !

Bennell will not be playing AFL in two months if he doesn't get a kick .

I'm usually supportive of him but he really has so many "nothing " games that I cannot keep backing him up.

Yes but there is a big difference Sylvia had a number of very good games in his first 60

Bennel has had 4 -5 good games.

The last of them was 2010.

How can you keep playing someone who averages 5 touches per game?

Even if, and I stress if, Jack doesn't live up to his full potential, at this point in his development he is proving to be an important cog in our team when he's out there. Yes he probably deserved to be dropped but as freak is pointing to a moment that "typifies Watts ", I can remember moments that typify what he hasn't been in his first few years of development. I can think of at least three crucial points in the game where he did the "hard stuff" one that directly resulted in a goal.

I was a little concerned at the start of the year with him, he's now the least of my problems. I'm making the call now, in 2 years he will be in our top 3 most important players.

No doubt he has failed to deliver and he will spend time at casey until he improves or do an Adam Maric and be delisted and traded.

I am suspecting that Bennell may only have until seasons end.

I will consign him to the heap at an appropriate time. If the form continues it may be seasons end. Until then he has got that time - in the 1st's if he proves himself worthy or alas at casey.

Agreed, I've been of this opinion since the day he was drafted.

For those calling for him to be dropped, take a look at the stats, and make a list of the players who didn't go hard enough. If you have Watts near the top of your list to be omitted then you're mad. His kick ins from full back (excluding the terrible one in the last quarter) were the best we've seen outside of Frawley's work over the past few years, and for the most part, he worked very hard...like most of our guys he lacks the fitness to run out 4 quarters and slowed down in the last. But that will come with another pre-season of working at the required intensity under the new coaching regime.

Going to get rid of Trengove as well? He's done not much either for a #2 pick.

This is a ridiculous post. Trengove's first two years were very good by any measure.

I hate the fact that 1 out of 10 people either in the media or on the street absolutely hang crap on watts and their voice is heard more then the 9 out of 10 who can see the improvement in jack all the time.

So it's a hierarchical issue?

We should trade out all hope for pick up grades......yeah!!!!!

I agree. Mitch Clark should fetch us a second rounder. Maybe we could put him in some sort of package with Watts and Jones to get a mid-first round pick.

I , like most have great hopes for Watts but ....

When he realises that he the 196cm marking target and not the crumber the better. (WTF is Neeld/Craig/Malthouse telling him?)

When he learns that if he doesn't get the ball the 1st time he can actually go in and try again a second.

When he looks past leading players 30-40 meters away and has the confidence to have the odd ping from fiddy will be nice.

When he realises he's a big unit and unlikely to get killed out there will be great.

This. The problem is he thinks too much. That may sound stupid but your point about him being a marker and not a crumber is pertinent. He summed up the contest and thought he should stay down as the rule is one up, one down. Go for the ball and let the others crumb. If they get in your way knock them over they will soon learn not to go again.

I have refrained from posting anything on this thread because the premise is ridiculous. Give the lad time because he's a good footballer who will likely become a great footballer. The reason I'm on here was because I wanted to pass comment on our midfield and didn't know where else to go. I caught 10 seconds of the Richmond, Hawks game and in that 10 secs, I saw Jake king make four successive, effective tackles on four different players. How good is that? When was the last time I saw someone in our mids do that? How fit is he? Just a thought.

Ps I might have last seen it in the NAB Cup game against the Pies. Sweet memories!

Impressive again today. 24 disposals across half back. 7 marks. Reads the play beautifully.

I say leave him there and let him build up confidence as a league player.

Couldn't agree more. Leave him back and as long as young Mcdonald keeps performing refresh Garland as a forward.

For all those commentators who have knocked Jack for getting easy kicks in the backline.

Interesting comment from Neeld in his interview at end of the game.

PARAPHRASING: Jack is not set up as a loose man in defense he just has the ability to read the play & get out by himself.

Who would've thought?

Frawley out, THEN a shock move of Garland to the forward line, lump some responsibility on Watts and McDonald, and boy did they respond.

Definitely something to build on for the rest of the season.

Back to Jack though, it shouldn't be any surprise.

We've seen what Neeld did for Daisy Thomas - expect the same for Watts.

by CH7 etc saying jack was loose man in defense takes so much away from his game

They are basically saying that he is not accountable which is crap. He played like a man possessed last night. Hit contests hard, pushed him self to pressure players. I think the fact neeld has made him accountable for something allows him to show this creative side he has threatened us with offensively, while also having a direct opponent to beat in contests.

Neeld / MFC should call out the so called special comments team @ CH7 and tell them to GGF.

Watts won some contested football at ground level which was encouraging and his handball was very creative in tight. But there's no getting away from the fact that he doesn't attack the ball in the air - he needed to move forward and jump at the Robinson ball in the 3rd quarter and he needed to fly for the mark in the exact same spot but in the forward line in the last quarter - he had the sit at 180 degress to the direction of the ball where the other 3 players were flew at angles. It's simply just not good enough.

Attacked the ball in the air much better against the Bombers. Keep it up.

I have stated before he has always been impressive and needs to develop BUT

I do not want to see his potential wasted by having his natural abilities lost as he goes defensive

I think he is a better player than to allow this to happen But again I certainly saw this happen to Green and Bruce who were out and out strikers who turned into grunters.

Please Please release him to the attacking tasks he has shown he has the abilities for.

Althougn I am sure he will be one of the most plased with the win and happy to play anywhere coz hes good enough to do anything Except crash and bash all night. Incidently I dont think we need to many of those as Mitch was superb again although dont think he would have many stats.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
